A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead financial operations, planning, and compliance functions. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CFO will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, partnering closely with organizational leadership, the Board of Directors, and Finance Committee to support long-term financial sustainability and growth.
This role will oversee all financial activities including budgeting, forecasting, accounting operations, grant and contract compliance, cash flow management, audits, financial reporting, and internal controls. The ideal candidate will bring strong nonprofit financial expertise, leadership capabilities, and the ability to support strategic organizational initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead organizational financial strategy, planning, and forecasting
- Oversee accounting operations, monthly close, and financial reporting
- Manage annual budgeting process and monitor cash flow
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and grant requirements
- Oversee audits, tax filings, Form 990 preparation, and regulatory reporting
- Present financial reports and recommendations to executive leadership, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors
- Develop and strengthen financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Supervise and mentor accounting and finance staff
- Manage relationships with auditors, banks, and financial partners
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred
- 8-10 years of progressive financial leadership experience
- Minimum 5 years of nonprofit financial management experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, federal grant compliance, and nonprofit accounting practices
- Experience managing annual audits and board-level financial presentations
- Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills

Work Environment
This is a hybrid position involving both office and community-based work. Occasional evening, overnight, and out-of-town travel may be required.
