Deputy CFO
Location: New York (Hybrid) - 4 days per week in office

The Opportunity
Our client is a rapidly growing, startup / media company experiencing significant global expansion across multiple revenue streams and international markets. As the business scales, they are seeking a hands-on Deputy CFO to lead the company's accounting, financial planning & analysis, treasury, and finance operations.
Reporting directly to the current CFO, this executive will oversee the global finance organization, partner with senior leadership on strategic decision-making, and build the financial infrastructure needed to support the company's next stage of growth. This is an opportunity to step into a true Deputy CFO role with broad ownership and executive visibility - path to future CFO.
Must Haves:
- Led the accounting and FP&A function for a fast-growing startup
- Overseen international consolidations
- Built an accounting/finance function from the ground up - including systems integrations, upgrades, and overall financial structure
- Comfortable being hands-on and managing a team of 0-5
Key Responsibilities
- Lead global accounting, financial reporting, and month-end/year-end close processes across multiple entities and international jurisdictions.
- Own consolidated financial statements, ensuring accuracy, compliance with US GAAP, and effective internal controls.
- Oversee annual budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, and management reporting processes.
- Lead financial modeling, scenario planning, and variance analysis to provide actionable insights to executive leadership and the Board.
- Manage treasury operations, cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and liquidity planning.
- Oversee finance systems, ERP platforms, reporting tools, and automation initiatives to improve scalability and efficiency.
- Manage external auditors, tax advisors, and outsourced accounting partners while ensuring regulatory compliance across global operations.
- Partner with the CFO and executive team on strategic initiatives, international expansion, operational improvements, and business growth.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience spanning accounting, financial operations, and FP&A.
- Proven experience leading both controllership/accounting functions and budgeting, forecasting, and planning functions.
- Strong background managing multi-entity, multi-currency, and international finance operations.
- Experience overseeing consolidations, intercompany transactions, and foreign currency accounting.
- Demonstrated success scaling finance organizations within high-growth, venture-backed, private equity-backed, or rapidly expanding companies.
- Deep knowledge of US GAAP, financial controls, audit management, and regulatory compliance.
- Hands-on experience with ERP and financial systems such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Workiva, BlackLine, FloQast, or similar platforms.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA, MBA, or Big Four accounting experience strongly preferred.
