FirstFour Staffing has partnered with a Regional Homebuilder and is assisting in their search for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This is an onsite position.
Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a strategic member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the company, including accounting, financial planning and analysis, treasury, budgeting, forecasting, risk management, and capital strategy. The CFO will provide financial leadership to support the company’s residential homebuilding and real estate development operations while driving profitability, operational efficiency, and long-term growth.
This role requires deep experience in residential construction, land development, project financing, and real estate investment structures.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and execute the company’s financial strategy in alignment with overall business objectives
- Partner with the executive team on strategic planning, growth initiatives, and market expansion
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations related to land acquisitions, development opportunities, and new community investments
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Maintain compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, lender requirements, and internal controls
- Manage the corporate tax return process in coordination with the external CPA firm, including preparation and review of all required tax-related journal entries and adjustments
- Lead coordination with external CPA firm and other advisors
Homebuilding & Development Finance
- Monitor profitability and cost performance across communities, development projects, and construction operations
- Oversee job cost accounting, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and project-level financial analysis
- Analyze construction budgets, change orders, development costs, and margin performance
Treasury & Capital Management
- Manage company cash flow, liquidity planning, and banking relationships
- Oversee debt management, credit facilities, and financing structures
- Evaluate opportunities for capital raising, joint ventures, and investor partnerships
- Optimize working capital and operational efficiency across the organization
Operational Leadership
- Develop KPIs and financial dashboards to measure operational and financial performance
- Collaborate with construction, development, purchasing, sales, and operations teams to improve profitability and efficiency
- Lead and mentor finance and accounting staff while building scalable processes and systems
- Drive ERP, accounting system, and reporting improvements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred
- 8+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including senior-level finance roles within residential homebuilding, construction, or real estate development
- Strong understanding of construction accounting, job costing, land development finance, and real estate financial modeling
- Experience managing banking relationships, construction lending, and capital planning
- Proven leadership experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
- Advanced proficiency in financial reporting systems, ERP platforms, and Excel-based financial modeling
- Strong analytical, communication, and executive leadership skills
Preferred Experience
- Residential production homebuilding experience
- Master-planned community or land development experience
- Experience with private equity-backed or investor-backed organizations
- Familiarity with lien laws, retainage, subcontractor management, and construction risk mitigation
