Background
Reut USA is an American nonprofit that engages in strategic work regarding American Jewry and Israel. TOM - Tikkun Olam Makers - is a flagship venture of Reut USA and our most pressing challenge in terms of revenues.
TOM is an international humanitarian project that originated in Israel. TOM operates at the intersection between innovation in technology and design with social challenges. While TOM is currently a relatively small venture ($4M / year), its reach is global and its plans are bold. Hence, we are looking for a dynamic Chief Revenue Officer that will join the TOM leadership team to lead and be responsible for developing revenue streams to help TOM realize its full potential.
Overview of position
TOM's future Chief Revenue Officer will be responsible for developing revenue streams for TOM in the USA and in Israel, initially through focus on clear “verticals” of our operations. Work may require, as needed, research, planning, grant writing, solicitation and reporting to donors and supporters.
Within Reut USA, this person will report to and work closely with Gidi Grinstein, Reut USA and TOM’s Founder and President, and with Edun Sela, Reut USA and TOM CEO, as well as with other members of the senior management and leadership team. Quite quickly, this position will take over responsibility over existing development efforts of Reut USA and then expand them.
This position requires intense full-time commitment and in-person presence in our office in Midtown Manhattan, as well as some travel within the USA and occasionally to Israel.
Approach
We are looking for a person who will study our enterprise and present a plan to grow our annual budget 2.5x to $10M within 3 years and to $15M within additional 2-3 years.
At the same time, our approach for this hire emphasizes initial short-term responsibility for one or two agreed-upon “verticals” in order to ensure mutual fit, while learning about our organization. Examples of “verticals” include, but are not limited to, funding our work in NYC and the launch our new Innovation Center; sponsorships for our Global Innovation Challenge; funding for our work for disabled Israeli soldiers; funding for our on-campus program; sponsorships from corporations on a fee-for-service model; funding for our work on inclusive sports or ahead of the Paralympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028 (here); or funding for our New York City or South Florida operation.
We expect creativity and versatility in terms of revenue generation. While our current budget relies on various types of philanthropic contributions primarily from Jewish individuals and foundations, we would like to diversify our revenues with corporate sponsorships, government grants and various fee-for-service structures.
Measurement of success for the Initial Phase (6-12 months)
While the measurement of long-term success are stated above, the measurements for success in the initial formative phase of 12-18 months are:
- Embracing the TOM Vision and approach, including its outlook, and being able to communicate them to various audiences.
- Having a work plan (designed with TOM leadership) and implementing it to generate new revenues within the agreed-upon verticals.
- Strong research capabilities including use of AI tools and self-reliance in areas of responsibility (we do not believe in administrative assistants but will provide research assistants)
Integral Requirements:
- This is an in-person, full-time and exclusive position operating out of our office in Midtown Manhattan. Note that our space is within the premises of a school so some form of background check will be required.
- Acquaintance with the Jewish community and Jewish philanthropy will be a must. Acquaintance with Israel and fluency in Hebrew is an advantage.
