Compensation: $175,000–$220,000 annually

About the Opportunity
A rapidly growing behavioral health organization is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive leadership team. This high-impact position will partner directly with the CEO and executive leadership team to oversee the organization's financial strategy, operational performance, and long-term growth initiatives.
The CFO will be responsible for all aspects of financial management, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, compliance, and strategic planning. This executive will play a critical role in helping scale the organization through organic growth, acquisitions, and operational excellence.
We are seeking a hands-on leader who can balance strategic vision with operational execution. The ideal candidate will bring significant healthcare finance and accounting experience, with strong preference given to professionals from the behavioral health, mental health, addiction treatment, or substance use disorder (SUD) sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team and strategic advisor to the CEO.
- Lead the organization's overall financial strategy, planning, and performance management.
- Oversee all accounting, finance, treasury, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting functions.
- Develop financial models and growth strategies that support organizational expansion and profitability.
- Provide executive leadership with financial insights, KPI dashboards, and data-driven recommendations.
- Lead annual budgeting and long-range strategic planning processes.
- Manage banking relationships, debt structures, lender covenants, and capital planning activities.
- Oversee financial audits, tax filings, regulatory compliance, and risk management initiatives.
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end financial reporting.
- Evaluate and strengthen internal controls, financial policies, and operational procedures.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, de novo growth initiatives, integrations, and due diligence activities.
- Partner with operational leaders to improve profitability, reimbursement performance, and overall financial outcomes.
- Build, mentor, and develop high-performing accounting and finance teams.
- Drive scalability initiatives and process improvements to support continued organizational growth.
- Present financial performance, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to ownership, investors, lenders, and executive leadership as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience.
- Minimum of 5 years in a senior financial leadership role (CFO, VP Finance, Controller, or equivalent).
- Extensive healthcare finance and accounting experience required.
- Behavioral health, mental health, addiction treatment, or substance use disorder (SUD) experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury management, and financial analysis.
- Experience managing multi-entity and multi-site healthcare organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to influence strategic business decisions and partner with executive leadership.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation strongly preferred.
- MBA or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred.
- Experience with Intacct, NetSuite, Expensify, or similar ERP/accounting systems.
- Previous experience within private equity-backed healthcare organizations highly preferred.
- Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, integrations, and rapid organizational growth.
- Strong understanding of healthcare reimbursement, revenue cycle management, and operational finance.
