About the Role
We are looking for a highly experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead the company’s finance, compliance, governance, fundraising, investor relations, taxation, and strategic financial planning functions.
The CFO will work closely with the Founder / CEO and leadership team to build a financially disciplined, compliant, scalable, and investor-ready organization. This role is ideal for a senior finance leader who understands the Indian business ecosystem, startup funding environment, regulatory framework, and growth-stage financial operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Strategy & Planning
- Own the company’s overall financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
- Build financial models for business planning, fundraising, valuation, unit economics, and profitability analysis.
- Advise the Founder / CEO on capital allocation, cost optimization, revenue strategy, and business scalability.
- Create financial dashboards and MIS reports for leadership, investors, and board-level reviews.
Fundraising & Investor Relations
- Support fundraising strategy across angel, seed, VC, family office, strategic investor, and debt funding channels.
- Prepare investor decks, financial projections, valuation models, due diligence data rooms, and funding documentation.
- Manage communication with investors, lenders, financial institutions, and external stakeholders.
- Evaluate term sheets, investment structures, dilution impact, and shareholder-level implications.
Compliance, Taxation & Governance
- Ensure compliance with Indian statutory, regulatory, tax, accounting, and corporate governance requirements.
- Oversee GST, TDS, income tax, ROC, MCA filings, audits, FEMA compliance, and other applicable regulatory obligations.
- Work with company secretaries, auditors, tax consultants, legal advisors, and compliance partners.
- Ensure board, shareholder, and investor reporting is accurate and timely.
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Set up and supervise accounting systems, internal financial controls, expense approvals, revenue recognition, and cash-flow management.
- Oversee monthly closing, bookkeeping, reconciliations, payroll finance, vendor payments, receivables, and payables.
- Build processes for financial discipline, audit readiness, and transparency.
- Implement scalable financial systems, ERP/accounting tools, and reporting frameworks.
Risk Management
- Identify financial, operational, regulatory, taxation, and compliance risks.
- Design risk mitigation frameworks, internal controls, approval matrices, and governance policies.
- Support contract review from a financial, commercial, and risk perspective.
- Ensure responsible cash management and runway planning.
Business & Commercial Support
- Partner with business, product, sales, and operations teams to improve pricing, margins, collections, and profitability.
- Track business KPIs including revenue, burn, runway, CAC, LTV, gross margin, EBITDA, working capital, and cash conversion.
- Support strategic partnerships, M&A evaluation, vendor negotiations, and commercial decision-making.
Required Experience
- 15–20 years of experience in finance leadership, corporate finance, controllership, audit, fundraising, compliance, taxation, or strategic finance.
- Prior experience as CFO, Finance Head, VP Finance, Director Finance, or senior finance leadership role.
- Strong understanding of Indian regulatory and compliance environment.
- Experience working with startups, growth-stage companies, technology companies, fintech, SaaS, data, digital, or platform businesses preferred.
- Proven experience in fundraising, investor reporting, financial modeling, audits, taxation, and governance.
- Experience dealing with auditors, company secretaries, tax consultants, banks, investors, and board members.
Qualification
- CA strongly preferred.
- MBA Finance, CFA, CPA, or equivalent qualification will be an added advantage.
- Strong command over Indian accounting standards, taxation, Companies Act, GST, TDS, ROC/MCA compliance, and financial governance.
Compensation Structure
This is a stake / equity-based leadership opportunity. The final stake structure will be discussed based on experience, involvement level, value addition, time commitment, fundraising contribution, and long-term alignment with the company.
Possible structures may include:
- Equity stake
- ESOP allocation
- Advisory equity
- Performance-linked equity
- Milestone-based vesting
- Hybrid structure, if mutually agreed
