Summary:
- The Director of Business Operations is responsible for all aspects of the Department of Pharmacy Services financial, revenue cycle and business development activities. The scope of the department includes $357M± gross revenue, $106M± in expenses, 225± FTE's, and over $8.7M in drug inventory. The Director of Business Operations provides management of the Department's revenue cycle, including oversight of purchasing, billing operations and billing compliance at multiple clinical locations under the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania's operating license. The Director of Business Operations manages hospital financial operations, budgeting and analysis functions as well as oversee a team consisting of Business Managers, Billing Technicians, 340B Technicians, and Purchasing & Storeroom Technicians. The Director of Business Operation will play a strategic role in UPHS-wide strategic initiatives in conjunction with the leadership of the Department of Pharmacy Services and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and will identify and implement efficient business operations in conjunction with The Department of Pharmacy Services management team.
Responsibilities:
OPERATIONS
- Works with Department Director to develop Department strategic plan and budget.
- Provides leadership for the development of Department strategic plan and budget. Ensures that annual strategic goals are linked to entity and leadership’s performance targets.
- Participates as a member of Department Leadership in the development of strategic capital and other resource priorities and manages them for maximum benefit to Department.
- Ensure Department leadership understands and can represent to all stakeholders Health System, CPUP and Department strategic plans and targets.
- Reporting accountabilities include:
- All Financial Reporting
- Annual Budget
- Communication plans are effectively implemented.
- Ensure appropriate follow-up of major issues
- Manage routine and crisis communications throughout the department/ entity/community as they arise.
- Demonstrates recognition of the systemic impact of employee communication and/or policy changes and solicits proactive feedback prior to implementation
- Forecasts requirements for manpower, equipment, supplies and workload consistent with goals and objectives.
- Monitors, assesses and makes necessary adjustments to departmental operations to insure quantity and quality of services.
- Possesses and exhibits practical, technical and academic knowledge sufficient to successfully manage department.
- Makes consistent efforts to control cost while seeking ways to increase productivity and improve quality.
- Leads the Department in the development and implementation of capital and operating budgets using system wide standards and processes. Partners with CPUP other relevant Leadership to develop performance targets and assumptions.
- Department revenue cycle management/oversight. Ensure Department alignment with all standards. Ensures centralized services meet all agreed upon performance measurements.
- Partner with the Director to provide financial planning and analysis to Health System leadership.
- Participates in Negotiations with vendors for favorable terms and prepares ROIs to guide and recommend decisions and priorities.
Credentials:
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required) with Education Specialization: Healthcare, Business Administration, Finance Equivalent Experience:
- And 5+ years Healthcare experience, preferably experience within an area of clinical operations.
- Master of Arts or Science (Required) with Education Specialization: Healthcare, Business Administration Equivalent Experience:
- And 3+ years Healthcare experience, preferably experience within an area of clinical operations.
