Chief Financial Officer
Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a strategic member of the executive leadership team, providing financial direction and oversight to support the organization's long-term mission, operational excellence, and sustainable growth. The CFO is responsible for leading all aspects of finance, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, compliance, and financial planning while serving as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and the governing board.
This executive will develop scalable financial strategies, strengthen organizational infrastructure, and ensure the integrity of financial operations across a complex, multi-location organization. The ideal candidate is an innovative finance leader with exceptional analytical skills, strong operational acumen, and experience building collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Responsibilities
Executive Financial Leadership
- Serve as the organization's senior financial advisor, partnering with executive leadership to develop and execute strategic initiatives that support organizational objectives.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations that guide operational, capital, and long-term planning decisions.
- Develop financial strategies that balance growth, sustainability, and responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
- Present financial performance, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and the governing board.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Direct the organization's annual budgeting process, long-range financial planning, and rolling forecasts.
- Develop financial models, scenario analyses, and performance metrics that support strategic decision-making.
- Evaluate organizational performance through financial and operational analytics, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Provide timely reporting and actionable insights that support continuous improvement across all business units.
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Oversee all accounting operations, including financial reporting, general ledger management, month-end close, and regulatory reporting.
- Ensure the timely preparation of accurate financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Maintain strong financial controls and reporting processes that safeguard organizational assets and ensure data integrity.
- Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and financial reporting requirements with outside auditors and advisors.
Treasury, Risk & Compliance
- Oversee cash management, banking relationships, investments, debt management, and liquidity planning.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations, contractual obligations, grant requirements, and organizational policies.
- Identify financial risks and implement strategies to strengthen internal controls and governance practices.
- Monitor compliance with funding agreements and regulatory reporting requirements.
Revenue Strategy & Funding
- Develop financial strategies that maximize available funding sources and support long-term financial sustainability.
- Analyze revenue trends and identify opportunities to diversify funding and improve financial performance.
- Partner with leadership to evaluate new revenue opportunities, grant funding, and strategic initiatives.
- Monitor reimbursement models, funding allocations, and external revenue streams to optimize financial outcomes.
Leadership & Organizational Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting and finance organization, creating a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Establish departmental goals, performance expectations, and professional development opportunities.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration with operational leaders to improve financial literacy and organizational decision-making.
- Promote operational excellence through technology, process improvements, and financial systems optimization.
Stakeholder & Board Partnership
- Build strong relationships with board members, financial institutions, auditors, government agencies, grantors, and other external partners.
- Prepare and present financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and strategic analyses to board committees and executive leadership.
- Serve as the primary financial representative for external financial and regulatory matters.
- Support organizational planning through active participation in executive leadership meetings and strategic initiatives.
