One of the nations most well known and respected Jewish Non-Profits has started the process for selection of a new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). All practices will be in accordance with the Jewish faith.
We are seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide strategic financial leadership and oversight for the organization. The CFO will be responsible for the organization’s financial strategy, health, and integrity, overseeing accounting, budgeting, auditing, financial reporting, compliance, internal controls, and overall financial performance.
This individual will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and senior leadership team, providing financial analysis and insights to support decision-making, organizational growth, and long-term sustainability. The CFO will also provide leadership, guidance, and oversight to the Controller and accounting team regarding day-to-day financial operations. This position reports directly to the CEO.
Financial Leadership & Reporting
- Analyze financial data and reports accurately and timely.
- Review and communicate monthly and annual financial statements to leadership.
- Monitor financial performance, analyze budget-to-actual variances, identify financial risks, and recommend corrective actions.
- Provide regular updates to the CEO and Board regarding financial performance, trends, and potential risks.
- Attend Finance Committee meetings and provide recommendations and insight regarding profit and loss, cash flow, balance sheet activity, and other financial matters.
- Serve as staff liaison to the Finance Committee, Board, and Executive Board.
- Partner with the Treasurer to develop financial reporting and presentations.
- Develop and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.
Accounting & Operational Oversight
- Provide leadership, guidance, and additional training to the Controller regarding accounting operations, processes, and procedures.
- Partner with Payroll to ensure accurate payroll reporting and allocations.
- Review and approve financial aspects of new employee additions as required.
- Manage and maintain organizational insurance requirements.
- Oversee and optimize financial systems and technology, including accounting, fundraising/donor management software, and other operational platforms.
- Provide additional financial oversight and support as needed.
Budgeting & Annual Planning
- Partner with department heads to develop the annual operating budget in alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic goals.
- Collaborate with department leaders through monthly budget discussions to ensure accuracy, accountability, and compliance.
- Monitor performance against budget and provide leadership with actionable financial insights.
- Support long-term financial planning, capital budgeting, and financial modeling for organizational initiatives.
Debt & Capital Project Management
- Provide financial oversight for debt agreements, financing arrangements, and other borrowing activities.
- Manage relationships with lenders and financial institutions and ensure compliance with debt covenants, reporting requirements, and financing terms.
- Support the evaluation, negotiation, and administration of debt used to fund building renovations, facility improvements, and other major capital projects.
- Develop financial models and cash flow projections related to renovation projects, capital expenditures, and debt service requirements.
- Partner with leadership, contractors, lenders, and other stakeholders to ensure capital projects remain financially viable and aligned with organizational objectives.
Audit, Tax & Compliance
- Serve as the principal liaison for the annual financial audit.
- Oversee preparation of audit schedules and required supplemental documentation.
- Coordinate financial information required for preparation of the organization’s Form 990.
- Ensure financial practices and reporting remain compliant with applicable requirements and organizational policies.
Grant & Fundraising Financial Management
- Prepare budget schedules and supporting financial information for agency grants.
- Assist in ensuring grant-related financial activity is accurately tracked and reported.
- Partner with fundraising and development teams to ensure donor, contribution, pledge, and fundraising-related financial information is accurately captured and reconciled.
- Support integration and reconciliation between fundraising systems and the organization’s accounting and financial reporting platforms.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Direct, manage, mentor, and evaluate finance and accounting team members.
- Partner closely with the CEO, executive leadership, and department heads on financial and operational matters.
- Provide financial guidance that supports both day-to-day operations and long-term organizational sustainability.
- Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable recommendations for executive leadership and the Board.
- Perform additional responsibilities and financial oversight as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA, MBA, or advanced degree preferred.
- Significant experience in senior financial leadership, such as CFO, VP of Finance, Finance Director, or similar capacity.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and internal controls.
- Candidates should have some level of philanthropic service throughout their career.
