CFO Recruit is partnering with a fast-growing pharmaceutical company to appoint a new CFO. The role will be hybrid with time in the office in New Jersey. The CFO will support the company as it continues to scale and develop. The CFO will own the financial strategy, operations, and reporting infrastructure of the company. This is a high-impact role reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the Board of Directors, ideal for a finance leader who thrives in a fast paced environment and who has experience of building and developing high performing teams and systems. The CFO will have the following responsibilities:
- Own company-wide financial strategy, planning, and analysis (FP&A), including budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning.
- Lead capital raising efforts, investor relations, and Board reporting, including preparation for future equity or debt financing rounds.
- Oversee accounting operations, ensuring GAAP compliance, timely close cycles, and audit readiness.
- Manage cash flow and treasury strategy.
- Build out financial systems, controls, and reporting infrastructure to support growth.
- Partner with department leaders on program-level budgeting and ROI analysis.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, banking partners, and outside counsel.
- Oversee revenue recognition and contract structuring for licensing deals and partnerships.
- Ensure compliance with SEC, tax, and industry-specific financial regulations.
- Mentor and grow a lean but high-performing finance and accounting team.
Skills/experience required to be successful in this position:
- 12+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, including 4+ years as CFO, VP Finance, or similar in a life sciences, pharmaceutical, or biotech company.
- CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred.
- Experience raising capital (venture, private equity, or public markets) and managing investor relationships.
- Strong command of GAAP, financial controls, and audit processes.
- Proven ability to build and scale finance functions in a high-growth environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with experience presenting to Boards and external stakeholders.
The compensation advertised for this role is a guideline and the salary offered will be commensurate with experience.
