THE OPPORTUNITY:
Our client is a private equity-backed consumer products organization operating in a food and beverage, multi-channel environment.
They are seeking a Chief Financial Officer who will serve as the senior finance leader & can work closely with the CEO, executive leadership team, ownership stakeholders, and financing partners.
This role will provide leadership across FP&A, accounting oversight, treasury, liquidity management, working capital, financial reporting, lender communications, and executive decision support. The successful candidate will quickly assess the current finance environment, identify the highest-priority risks and opportunities, and help strengthen financial processes while maintaining continuity across the organization.
The ideal candidate is an accomplished CFO or senior finance executive with experience in consumer products, food and beverage, beauty/cosmetics, or another inventory-oriented operating environment, along with meaningful exposure to private equity, lenders, cash management, and growth-oriented businesses.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as the senior financial advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team during the engagement.
- Assess the current finance organization, reporting environment, financial processes, controls, and team capabilities.
- Identify immediate financial risks, operational gaps, improvement opportunities, and priorities requiring leadership attention.
- Review and strengthen forecasting, budgeting, cash flow projections, and financial planning processes.
- Develop and refine financial analysis and scenario models to support strategic and operational decisions.
- Evaluate revenue performance, gross margin, pricing, customer profitability, product economics, and investment decisions.
- Provide clear financial insight into business performance and translate results into practical recommendations for leadership.
- Oversee cash management, short-term liquidity planning, working capital performance, and balance sheet priorities.
- Evaluate inventory, receivables, payables, and other working-capital drivers to identify opportunities to improve cash conversion.
- Manage relationships with banks and financing partners and support ongoing lender communications.
- Monitor debt facilities, borrowing capacity, covenant requirements, compliance reporting, and other financing obligations.
- Review monthly financial reporting, accounting processes, close procedures, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Partner with the accounting team to improve reporting accuracy, close discipline, documentation, and financial visibility.
- Support audit, tax, compliance, and other external financial requirements as needed.
- Prepare and present financial materials for executive leadership, ownership stakeholders, lenders, and Board-level discussions.
- Support financing initiatives, operational improvement programs, capital allocation decisions, and other strategic projects.
- Evaluate the organizational structure, processes, systems, and capabilities within Finance and recommend improvements where appropriate.
- Coach and support existing finance and accounting team members while ensuring continuity during the leadership transition.
- Establish clear documentation, recommendations, and transition plans to support an effective handoff at the conclusion of the engagement.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- 15+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience.
- Prior experience serving as CFO, VP Finance, or equivalent senior finance executive required.
- Experience within consumer products, CPG, food and beverage, manufacturing, distribution, or another inventory-oriented business environment strongly preferred.
- Experience leading finance within a middle-market or similarly complex operating organization.
- Prior experience working in a private equity-backed or sponsor-owned environment required.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with CEOs, Boards, PE stakeholders, banks, & lending institutions.
- Strong hands-on FP&A experience, including budgeting, forecasting, scenario modeling, management reporting, and business performance analysis.
- Significant treasury and cash management experience, including liquidity planning, cash forecasting, and working capital optimization.
- Experience managing debt facilities, lender reporting, covenant compliance, borrowing availability, and banking relationships.
- Ability to quickly assess an organization, identify priorities, and execute with limited ramp-up time.
- Strong commercial judgment with the ability to balance strategic thinking and hands-on financial execution.
- Executive-level communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and concisely to senior stakeholders.
