Founding Business Operations Generalist
San Francisco | On-site | Early-stage AI startup
We’re hiring on behalf of an early-stage AI software company building next-generation agent-based technology for businesses. The company is backed by leading investors and is still at an early point in its journey, with a small, high-calibre founding team.
They’re looking for a Founding Business Operations Generalist with roughly 1–5 years of experience to become one of the first non-technical hires focused on business operations.
Working closely with the founders and senior leadership, you’ll take ownership of high-impact problems that don’t yet sit neatly within an existing function. This is a broad, hands-on role spanning areas such as hiring, go-to-market, customer success, internal operations, and strategic projects.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead high-priority cross-functional projects from problem definition through to execution
- Work across areas including recruiting, growth, customer activation, commercial operations, and internal processes
- Build and configure AI-powered workflows for both customers and internal teams, turning successful approaches into repeatable playbooks
- Establish and monitor the core operating metrics used to understand company performance
- Support customer onboarding by helping design workflows and use cases around the company’s technology
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement practical solutions as the company scales
- Jump into whatever is most important at the time, whether that involves pricing analysis, sales operations, customer materials, market research, or process design
What they’re looking for
- Approximately 1–5 years of professional experience, although exceptional candidates outside this range may also be considered
- Evidence of exceptional performance in at least one area — for example, experience within a leading consulting firm, high-growth technology company, competitive academic environment, previous founding experience, or another clear track record of high achievement
- A highly adaptable generalist who is equally comfortable thinking strategically and handling detailed execution
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to operate effectively without established processes or a predefined playbook
- Genuine interest in AI, with experience using AI tools in your day-to-day work or a strong ability to learn them quickly
- High levels of ownership, urgency, and attention to detail
- A track record that demonstrates meaningful progression and sustained impact within previous roles
Working environment
This is a highly collaborative, in-person environment and the team works from their San Francisco office five days per week.
It’s best suited to someone who wants significant responsibility early in their career, enjoys ambiguity, and is excited by the opportunity to help build the operating foundations of a fast-growing AI company.
