About the Role
We are partnering with a growing industrial construction and services organization seeking a Chief Financial Officer. The organization supports complex projects across electrical, mechanical, and related construction disciplines.
The Chief Financial Officer will provide financial leadership and serve as a strategic partner to the executive team. This role connects financial planning, operational performance, and business strategy, helping leaders make informed decisions across a project-driven operating environment.
The ideal candidate combines sound financial judgment with a practical understanding of construction economics. They can translate project and business-unit results into clear priorities while building reliable financial processes and a strong finance team.
What You'll Do
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting. Partner with operating leaders to evaluate performance, understand margin drivers, and align financial plans with business priorities.
- Oversee accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls. Promote consistent processes for project accounting, work-in-progress reporting, revenue recognition, and financial close, with clear visibility into the accuracy and timing of results.
- Manage cash flow and working capital, including billing, collections, retainage, and cash forecasting. Help leaders understand the financial implications of project commitments, capital investment, and resource allocation.
- Partner with construction and service leaders to review project profitability, estimate-to-complete assumptions, backlog, and financial risk. Establish reporting that identifies emerging issues and supports timely corrective action.
- Support strategic investment decisions and assess their financial implications. Coordinate with external accounting, tax, banking, and other financial partners as appropriate.
- Develop the finance and accounting team, strengthen accountability, and improve systems and reporting as the organization’s needs evolve. Communicate financial results and recommendations clearly to executive stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
- 15+ years in a senior financial leadership position in construction, industrial services, specialty contracting, or a comparable project-based business
- Experience leading finance and accounting teams and partnering closely with operating leaders
- Strong knowledge of project accounting, work-in-progress reporting, revenue recognition, and financial controls
- Experience leading budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and working capital for an organization with over $1 billion in annual revenue
- Ability to translate financial information into clear priorities and practical business recommendations
- Experience improving financial systems, reporting, and processes across operating groups
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with field, operational, and executive teams
Why This Role Stands Out
This role connects financial strategy directly with construction operations. It offers the opportunity to help leaders understand project performance, make informed investment decisions, and strengthen the financial discipline behind complex work.
