The Education Fund is a non-profit partnership between six Locals of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and 22 Healthcare Industry employers, serving the education and training needs of 100,000 eligible workers. Our mission is to empower our diverse healthcare workforce to advance in a changing environment through innovative education and training solutions. Our program and budget doubled in scale over the last five years to provide career advancement and continuing education services to 20,000 learners annually, and we are positioned for continued growth with new partners and funding.
Principal Purpose of Job: CFO, you will be reporting directly to the Executive Director; you will be part of an Executive Leadership team that is instrumental in driving a new shift in the organizational culture. You will lead the Finance team, ensuring that financial systems and technologies while delivering on the Education Fund’s mission and vision. The CFO works with the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees to keep them up-to-date on financial plans, execution, and outcomes.
As an integral part of the leadership team, you will need to be collaborative and have the ability to initiate and lead large-scale projects. You will need to be able to work in an unclear or ambiguous and fast-paced environment as we advance the work of the Education Fund.
Level of Authority: The CFO manages two direct reports and oversees a staff of 18 financial professionals in support of Ed Fund programs and services to our learners. The CFO partners with their peers: the Chief Operation Officer (COO), Director of Development, Director of Organizational Learning, and Director of Human Resources and Administration, and is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the financial operations and delivery within our annual budget of $50 million. The CFO holds responsibility for financial planning and execution in collaboration with our educational providers, employer stakeholders, and public and private funders.
Responsibilities:
Finance
• Leads the Financial resources of the organization to ensure the organization is functioning efficiently within budgetary limits.
• Manages financial strategies (cash flow, investments, assets) and associated external relationships with banks, investment firms etc.).
• Coordinates audits and proper filing of tax returns.
• Ensures maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures.
• Provides regular and timely updates to the Education Fund’s Executive Leadership Team and Board of Trustees regarding the Education Fund’s financial performance against the budget and strategic plan. Provides visionary leadership for the operations of the Finance and Accounting Department and provide overall fiscal supervision for the agency.
• Oversees the annual budget and planning process, monitor progress and changes, and inform senior leadership of The Education Fund financial status.
• Manages cash flow and forecasting; ensure schedule is adhered to and financial data and cash flow support operational requirements.
• Oversees the management of cash receipts, tangible assets, disbursements, federal grant reimbursement requests, and the billing of grants.
• Ensures annual financial statement audits, tax returns, reports, and statements and adherence to all regulatory and compliance requirements.
• Ensures accounting and financial management systems are optimized to promote efficiency, accuracy, compliance, reporting, and analytics.
• Maintains and develops accounting and financial management policies, procedures, and practices while ensuring that internal control policies remain effective.
• Leads a high-performing team and learning, creating a culture of collaboration.
• Attends Board and Financial Committee meetings as an agency representative; provide presentations and financial updates.
Leadership
• Serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and participates in organization-wide problem-solving and decision-making.
• Provides supervision and support to direct reports that result in their professional growth.
• Creates and manages a high-performing team and sets clear goals and objectives.
• Provides clear performance management of team goals and objectives.
• Shares responsibility for strategic integration of operational activities within and between reporting departments and other areas of the organization.
• Provides leadership and direction to the organization and provides financial and administrative reports to the Board of Trustees.
• Provides coaching and mentorship to help Education Fund leaders develop financial literacy skills.
• Champions diversity as a key priority in management decisions.
Qualifications and Capabilities
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA and/or CPA preferred. Minimum of eight (8)
• Recent successful experience in a responsible financial leadership role.
• Familiarity with accounting/reporting practices for non-profit or public administration in California
• Extensive knowledge of financial policies, practices and systems; budgeting and reporting techniques; fund accounting; accounting and bookkeeping.
• Experience with the configuration, implementation and optimization of automated accounting and financial management systems and software
• Proven experience partnering with an executive team.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Exercise outstanding judgment in all areas of responsibility.
• Energetic, self-motivated and a hands-on professional with a strong work ethic.
• Capable of performing independently and thinking analytically and creatively to solve problems.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required to enable optimal interactions both internally and externally.

• Experience with Paycom, Salesforce, Sage, Excel, PowerPoint
• Must have a valid California Driver’s License, use a vehicle,

Preferred Qualifications and Capabilities:
• Experience with labor-management partnerships, workforce development, career technical education, higher education, healthcare sector, public sector, employer and union stakeholders, and Salesforce.
Compensation:
• Compensation available for the role considers various factors, including but not limited to, work location, individual skill set, previous/applicable experience, and other organizational needs. The estimated salary range for this role is $175,000 – $210,000.
