Job Description: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

As we expand our portfolio across the country, we are looking for a strategic and execution-focused Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who can help us scale our impact while managing financial risk, optimizing capital structure, and strengthening the financial health of both EquityX and our portfolio companies.
Role Summary
The CFO will play a mission-critical role at EquityX. This individual will oversee all aspects of financial strategy, acquisition financing, investor relations, and portfolio-level financial health. You will lead M&A execution, manage banking and capital relationships, and implement financial systems to ensure every company we acquire is sustainable and aligned with our principles of shared ownership and long-term stewardship.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Financial Leadership
- Design and execute the financial strategy for EquityX and its portfolio.
- Build and maintain acquisition models, capital deployment plans, and financial forecasts.
- Provide financial oversight and support to company Presidents across the portfolio.
2. M&A Execution
- Lead financial due diligence for acquisitions: QofE, working capital, risk assessments.
- Collaborate closely with legal and operations teams on deal structure and integration.
- Ensure that each acquisition aligns financially with EquityX’s ownership and operational philosophy.
3. Debt & Capital Structure Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with commercial banks, SBICs, private lenders, and equity investors.
- Raise and structure debt and equity for acquisitions and growth initiatives.
- Develop creative, risk-adjusted financing models (SBA, seller notes, asset-backed, mezzanine, etc.).
4. Governance, Reporting & Risk Management
- Develop and implement scalable financial reporting systems across all entities.
- Monitor portfolio performance and enforce disciplined budgeting, cash management, and compliance.
- Establish risk mitigation strategies that protect EquityX and its stakeholders.
5. Financial Team Leadership
- Recruit and oversee finance talent (in-house and fractional support).
- Mentor finance leads or Presidents at portfolio companies in financial management best practices.
Qualifications & Experience
- 10+ years of senior-level financial leadership, including prior experience as CFO or VP Finance.
- Proven track record in M&A, including due diligence, integration, and deal structuring.
- Strong relationships and demonstrated success in banking and capital raising for lower-middle market companies.
- Deep experience with the U.S. GAAP, forecasting, modeling, and financial systems.
- Experience working in holdco models, private equity, family offices, or multi-entity operations is highly preferred.
- Based in the United States; ability to travel occasionally.
- CPA, CFA, or MBA preferred.
