Position Overview:
Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serving diverse communities primarily in the neighborhoods of Dorchester, Roxbury, and Mattapan of Boston, is seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee all financial operations of the organization. With annual revenues of $20M+ and a staff of 130, this position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health, growth, and sustainability of the organization while aligning financial strategy with the mission of providing comprehensive, high-quality healthcare to underserved populations.
The CFO will be responsible for managing all financial functions, including financial planning, accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, billing matters and internal controls. The ideal candidate will have experience in FQHC finance, excellent leadership abilities, and a strong commitment to the mission of improving health access for underserved communities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Strategy & Leadership
o Develop and implement the organization’s financial strategy, in alignment with its mission, vision, and long-term goals.
o Provide strategic guidance to the CEO and Board of Directors on financial decision-making.
o Lead and manage the finance team to ensure efficient financial operations, including billing, accounts payable, and payroll.
o Foster a culture of financial transparency, collaboration, and accountability across the organization.
2. Financial Management & Reporting
o Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
o Prepare detailed and accurate financial forecasts, budgets, and cash flow projections.
o Monitor financial performance against budget, analyze variances, and make recommendations for corrective actions.
o Provide regular reports to the CEO, Board, and other stakeholders on financial status, forecasts, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
3. Compliance & Risk Management
o Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including FQHC-specific reporting requirements.
o Oversee audits, tax filings, and other external reporting, ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
o Assess and mitigate financial risks, ensuring robust internal controls, fraud prevention measures, and financial governance policies.
o Manage the organization’s relationships with external auditors, regulatory agencies, and other financial stakeholders.
4. Budgeting & Resource Allocation
o Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads and senior leadership.
o Develop financial models and recommend appropriate resource allocation strategies to optimize program delivery.
o Support and guide department managers in managing budgets, tracking expenses, and maximizing financial efficiency.
5. Revenue Cycle Management
o Oversee all aspects of the organization’s revenue cycle, including billing, reimbursement, and collections.
o Ensure adherence to federal and state guidelines, and identify opportunities for improved revenue cycle processes.
o Lead initiatives to improve payer mix, maximize revenue, and reduce denials.
6. Financial Planning & Growth
o Develop and assess financial plans for the organization’s growth, including opportunities for expansion, grant funding, and new services.
o Analyze potential mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, and joint ventures from a financial perspective.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree or CPA preferred).
· Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit healthcare setting (FQHC experience strongly preferred).
· Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls within a healthcare environment.
· Understanding of healthcare reimbursement models, Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance structures.
· Proven ability to manage complex financial data and create meaningful reports for stakeholders at all levels.
· Experience in leading audits and working with external auditors.
· Familiarity with healthcare-specific financial software, Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, and/or revenue cycle management tools.
· Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
· Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on strategic financial management.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
