Chief Financial Officer
About the Opportunity
The Foellinger Foundation has supported Allen County nonprofits since 1958, focusing on mission-driven, well-governed, results-oriented organizations. Due to an upcoming retirement, we seek a Chief Financial Officer to provide strategic leadership and oversight of financial, investment, and administrative operations while ensuring fiduciary integrity and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Engage with Executive Team on strategic direction and long-term financial planning
- Champion data-informed decision-making and serve as internal consultant to CEO
- Foster continuous improvement culture and stay current with market, accounting, and philanthropic trends
- Develop and present annual financial and capital budgets
Financial & Investment Management
- Support Investment & Finance and Audit Committees in developing investment strategy and policies
- Ensure investment manager compliance and oversee all accounting, finance, and treasury functions
- Drive process improvements for increased efficiency and effectiveness
- Maintain accurate financial reporting, multi-year forecasts, and internal controls
- Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and professional advisor relationships
Administration
- Oversee HR, payroll, benefits, technology systems, and risk management
- Lead digitization efforts to streamline workflows
- Ensure legal and regulatory compliance
- Conduct financial reviews of grant applicants and organize committee meetings
- Mentor and manage one direct report
Ideal Candidate
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance with a CPA required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of years of significant financial/accounting experience as the top financial executive
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent computer skills and current technology knowledge
- Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and presentation abilities
- Commitment to Foundation mission and collaborative work style
- Compliance and regulatory oversight experience
- Strategic planning leadership or active participation
Preferred:
- Nonprofit accounting and philanthropy experience/knowledge
- Investment management experience a plus
