Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee the financial strategy, planning, and execution for a conventional oil & gas company. As a core member of the executive leadership team, the CFO will play a critical role in guiding the financial health of the business through cyclical markets, capital-intensive projects, and complex regulatory environments. The CFO will report directly to the CEO and work cross-functionally to support operational efficiency, financial transparency, investor confidence, and long-term business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Lead the development and execution of the company’s financial strategy to support exploration, production, and operational goals.
- Drive long-term financial planning, capital structuring, and corporate development initiatives.
- Provide strategic recommendations to the CEO and board based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.
Accounting, Compliance & Reporting
- Oversee financial reporting, ensuring compliance with SEC regulations, GAAP/IFRS, and other applicable accounting standards.
- Manage internal and external audits, tax planning, and risk management policies.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to oil & gas operations, including environmental and royalty reporting.
Capital Markets & Investor Relations
- Manage relationships with equity investors, debt providers, rating agencies, and financial institutions.
- Lead capital raising efforts for exploration and development projects, including structured financing and reserve-based lending.
- Prepare and present financial reports and performance updates to the board of directors and investors.
Operational Finance & Performance Management
- Partner with operations, engineering, and supply chain teams to assess CAPEX/OPEX efficiencies and support project economics.
- Oversee cost accounting and field-level financial planning to enhance profitability across drilling, production, and midstream segments.
- Optimize treasury and cash flow management, including hedging strategies for commodity price risk.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and mentor the finance and accounting teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and financial discipline.
- Build scalable systems, tools, and processes to support a high-growth, capital-intensive organization.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
- 10+ years of financial leadership experience, with at least 5 years in the oil & gas industry (E&P, midstream, or services).
- Deep understanding of oil & gas accounting principles, reserve valuation, commodity pricing, and cost recovery mechanisms.
- Proven track record in capital markets, investor relations, and corporate finance within the energy sector.
- Experience managing budgets, forecasts, and large-scale financial models for capital projects.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
