The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will play a critical role in ensuring long-term sustainability, compliance, and fiscal health as we continue to serve our community and advance our mission.
As a member of the executive leadership team, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will oversee all aspects of financial management, including accounting, budgeting, reporting, forecasting, compliance, and long-term planning. The ideal candidate will be an experienced nonprofit finance professional with exceptional analytical skills, strategic insight, and a strong commitment to stewardship and transparency.
Key Responsibilities Of The Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Financial Strategy & Oversight
- Develop and implement robust financial strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Lead the organization’s financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
- Ensure the integrity of all financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP.
- Monitor cash flow, investments, and financial performance to advise executive leadership.
Accounting & Compliance
- Supervise day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and the general ledger.
- Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure timely compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations and tax filings.
- Manage external relationships with banks, auditors, and financial vendors.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and mentor a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
- Provide financial leadership and guidance to program and departmental managers.
- Support and lead the Finance Committee in partnership with the Board of Directors.
Board and Executive Collaboration
- Present regular financial updates, reports, and forecasts to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Collaborate with the Board to shape fiscal policies and guide financial decision-making.
- Provide strategic insight to senior leadership to support key initiatives and growth.
Strategic Planning
- Partner with the Executive Director and leadership team in organizational planning.
- Maintain and enhance financial forecasting tools for long-term sustainability.
- Identify risks and opportunities, supporting data-driven decision-making across departments.
Qualifications For The Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- CPA required
- Mix of accounting and finance experience required
- Experience in non-profits is ideal
- Extensive knowledge of nonprofit accounting, audit practices, and federal grant compliance.
- Proven leadership skills with experience managing finance teams and cross-departmental collaboration.
- Strong command of financial systems and ERP tools; experience with budgeting software preferred.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information to diverse audiences.
