Single family office seeks an exceptionally intelligent Chief Financial Officer to lead all Finance, Tax, and Accounting activities. This individual will collaborate closely with our COO and other members of the leadership team. The finance function has a comprehensive mandate to address all financial affairs of the Family Office and its associated entities. The CFO is a key and highly visible role within our multi-generational organization and is responsible for overseeing maintaining books and records, tracking investment performance, tax preparation and compliance, and risk management. These activities will require working knowledge of regulatory rules and effective collaboration with the firm’s external tax accountants, investment advisors, and other partners. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management, an impeccable work ethic, exceptional analytical skills, and a high level of discretion and confidentiality, likely coming from a Controller or CFO role.
Financial Accounting & Reporting:
- Oversee general ledger accounts to ensure accurate and timely reconciliation
- Manage and curate firm IBOR (investment book of record) system
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Monitor cash flow, prepare forecasts, and manage liquidity across multiple entities
- Implement internal controls to safeguard assets and maintain accurate financial reporting
Investment Tracking & Reporting:
- Track and monitor investments, including equities, real estate, alternative investments, and other assets
- Prepare and present detailed investment performance reports to family members using IBOR
- Maintain records of subscription agreements, capital calls, distributions, and valuations
Tax Compliance & Planning:
- Collaborate with accountants to prepare and file individual, foundation, trust, and entity-level tax returns
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
- Assist with tax planning to optimize efficiency and minimize liabilities
- Maintain records of tax filings and correspondence with authorities
Budgeting & Expense Management:
- Develop and oversee annual budgets and forecasts for operating entities
- Creating and maintaining meticulous financial records and documentation
- Ensure timely payment of bills and reimbursements with detailed transaction records
Risk Management & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and maintain appropriate insurance coverages
Systems & Processes:
- Implement and integrate new financial software to improve accounting, reporting, and investment tracking
- Document and update policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency
Collaboration & Communication:
- Act as a primary liaison between the family office and external accountants
- Provide regular financial updates to family members on performance and other relevant matters
- Support special projects and initiatives as directed by the family or leadership team
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA or equivalent
- Experience as a Controller or Chief Financial Officer with a hedge fund or family office
- 15+ years of Accounting experience with meaningful time spent in investment management with exposure to the capital markets.
