Chief Financial Officer (CFO) - Robotics, Automation & Government Contracting
A leading technology and automation company specializing in high-performance systems for government and commercial clients is seeking a hands-on, strategically minded Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead its financial and administrative functions.

The CFO will oversee all financial operations, ensure compliance with government contracting and audit standards, and manage all accounting and financial systems directly — with expert-level ownership of Sage 100 ERP.

Position Summary
The CFO serves as the senior financial leader, responsible for strategic planning, financial management, and day-to-day accounting execution. This individual must be versatile, detail-oriented, and self-sufficient, capable of handling both executive-level analysis and transactional work. The CFO will work closely with a part-time external accounting firm that provides bookkeeping and year-end review support but will remain the primary driver of all financial operations. The role reports directly to the CEO.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
· Develop and execute the company’s financial strategy in alignment with growth objectives.
· Advise the CEO and executive leadership on financial performance, risk management, and capital structure.
· Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
· Provide strategic input on pricing models, cost structure, and investment decisions.
Accounting & Reporting
· Manage all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cost accounting.
· Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes and prepare financial statements.
· Ensure GAAP compliance and maintain audit-ready records.
· Collaborate with the external accounting firm on financial statement reviews and tax preparation.
· Handle all reconciliations, journal entries, and transaction oversight within Sage.
System Ownership: Sage ERP
· Serve as the primary Sage 100 ERP expert and system owner.
· Manage user access, configurations, reporting, and data integrity.
· Optimize workflows across all financial modules to support company operations.
· Troubleshoot issues and implement process improvements that enhance system efficiency and control.
· Ensure that all data entered into Sage accurately reflects company operations.
Payroll, HR, and Benefits Integration
· Oversee payroll processing through Paychex, including approval and validation of payroll journals.
· Maintain confidentiality of compensation, bonuses, and contractor payments.
· Liaise with insurance providers for health, property, and casualty insurance renewals.
· Partner with HR on financial aspects of onboarding, benefits funding, and 401(k) management.
· Ensure compliance with applicable tax and employment reporting requirements.
Government Contracting & Compliance
· Manage compliance with FAR, DFARS, CAS, and DCAA/DCMA requirements.
· Prepare and review indirect rate calculations, incurred cost submissions, and cost proposal data.
· Support pricing strategies for government contracts and maintain documentation for audits.
· Collaborate with leadership on financial aspects of proposals and contract execution.
· Serve as the point of contact for customer financial audits and inquiries.
Operational & Administrative Oversight
· Review and approve vendor invoices, payments, and contractor expenses.
· Manage banking relationships, cash management, and financial controls.
· Support executive decision-making with accurate, timely financial insights and reporting.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
· 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally within technology, manufacturing, or government contracting.
· Expert-level proficiency in Sage 100 ERP — required.
· Hands-on accounting and financial management experience in a lean or small-team environment.
· Strong understanding of GAAP, cost accounting, and audit processes.
· Familiarity with FAR/DFARS, CAS, and DCAA/DCMA regulations preferred.
· Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
· Excellent communication and executive presentation abilities.
· Comfortable operating independently and remotely, with limited administrative support.
Compensation & Benefits
· Base Salary: $200,000–$250,000 (commensurate with experience)
· Bonus Opportunity: Up to 50% based on company and individual performance
