Position Overview
The Chief Investment Officer / Chief Financial Officer (CIO / CFO) will serve as a strategic and operational leader responsible for managing both the investment and financial functions of the family office. This dual role combines strategic asset allocation, portfolio oversight, and investment execution with financial stewardship, reporting, and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate brings deep investment acumen, a disciplined financial mindset, and the relationship skills necessary to collaborate closely with family principals, external advisors, and portfolio company executives.
Key Responsibilities
Investment Oversight
- Develop and execute the family office’s investment strategy across asset classes, including public equities, private equity, venture, real estate, and alternatives.
- Oversee portfolio construction, performance monitoring, and risk management.
- Lead sourcing, diligence, and execution of direct and co-investment opportunities.
- Maintain relationships with fund managers, financial institutions, and investment partners.
- Prepare regular investment reports and presentations for family principals and advisory committees.
Financial Leadership
- Direct all accounting, finance, and reporting functions for the family office and related entities.
- Oversee cash management, capital planning, and performance analytics across entities.
- Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners.
- Develop dashboards and forecasting tools to support liquidity planning and capital deployment.
- Partner with principals on estate planning, trust structures, and intergenerational financial strategies.
Strategic Leadership
- Align financial and investment strategies with the family’s overall mission and long-term goals.
- Lead and mentor internal and external teams supporting investment, accounting, and operations functions.
- Serve as a key advisor to family principals on investment opportunities, risk assessment, and portfolio diversification.
- Continuously evaluate technology, reporting systems, and data tools to enhance investment visibility and decision-making.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field; MBA, CPA, or CFA strongly preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive investment and finance leadership experience within a family office, private equity, or institutional investment environment.
- Demonstrated success managing diversified portfolios and executing direct or co-investment strategies.
- Strong technical understanding of accounting, financial reporting, and capital structure.
- Experience managing multi-entity structures, trusts, and estate planning considerations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship management skills, especially with principals and advisors.
- Familiarity with systems such as Addepar, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar investment/financial reporting platforms preferred.
