In addition to this organic growth, several strategic initiatives are underway, each of which could double the size of the business in a short space of time.
To help us shape and manage this growth, Cosmonauts is seeking a pro-active and dynamic Fractional Chief Financial Officer.
Role Overview
The Fractional CFO will provide hands-on, high-level financial leadership on a part-time or contract basis. This individual will manage and mentor the existing finance team, identify and implement better financial processes, and ensure best-practice, timely financial reporting to support strategic business decisions and improve the external presentation of the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and mentor the finance team; enhance skills, build accountability, and improve team performance.
- Assess current financial processes, systems, and controls; recommend and implement scalable improvements for efficiency, accuracy and prompt reporting.
- Oversee all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, reporting and financial planning.
- Ensure timely, accurate annual financial reporting in line with best practice accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Design and roll out robust management reporting and dashboards for the leadership team, enabling data-driven decision-making.
- Introduce and maintain clear financial calendars, processes documentation, and team workflows to ensure reliable output.
- Lead the preparation and analysis of financial statements, providing actionable insights to identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
- Support strategic initiatives including new market entry, investments, M&A, and fundraising with rigorous financial analysis, modelling, and due diligence.
- Work closely with senior leadership on financial strategy and scenario planning to support rapid company growth.
Requirements
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA) with significant experience as CFO, Finance Director, or senior finance manager in growth-stage, multi-country businesses.
- Demonstrated success managing finance teams, designing and improving financial processes, and implementing reliable management reporting.
- Track record of scaling finance operations in fast-growth environments, ideally within the events, exhibitions, media, or technology sector.
- Advanced knowledge of financial systems implementation, process automation, and data analysis/reporting tools.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills.
- Commercial acumen and ability to translate financial insights into strategic recommendations.
- Flexible, pragmatic approach with the ability to thrive in a fast-changing, entrepreneurial environment.
Engagement Terms
- Fractional/part-time arrangement; scope and schedule to be agreed according to business need and candidate availability.
- We expect this to be a role taking up 2-10 days per month and paying the full-time equivalent of £120,000-£150,000, depending on experience.
