Morehouse General Hospital (MGH) is seeking a seasoned, strategic, and highly collaborative Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our executive leadership team. Position Overview
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the overall financial strategy and fiscal stewardship of Morehouse General Hospital. The CFO provides leadership and oversight of all financial operations, including financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, revenue cycle management, and regulatory compliance.
As a key member of the senior leadership team, the CFO plays a critical role in organizational decision-making and strategic planning. This individual will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, clinical leaders, and department directors to ensure financial integrity, transparency, and alignment with the hospital’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy & Stewardship
- Provide executive leadership for all financial operations of the hospital, ensuring fiscal responsibility, sustainability, and transparency.
- Develop and oversee operating, capital, and project budgets; monitor performance against financial benchmarks and targets.
- Prepare and present accurate, timely financial and operational reports to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Ensure safeguarding of hospital assets and adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Oversee treasury functions, cash flow management, financial forecasting, and capital planning.
Revenue Cycle & Contracting
- Provide oversight and strategic direction for revenue cycle operations, including patient access, billing, coding, collections, and reimbursement optimization.
- Lead or support payer contracting and reimbursement strategy to maximize financial performance.
- Provide direct oversight and leadership for physician and provider contracts, including employment agreements, professional services agreements, medical directorships, call coverage agreements, and fair market value (FMV) assessments.
- Partner with legal counsel, human resources, and medical staff leadership to ensure physician contracts comply with regulatory requirements (including Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and other applicable healthcare regulations).
Operational & Performance Leadership
- Analyze financial and operational data from internal and external sources to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial efficiency, productivity, and operational effectiveness.
- Ensure effective financial controls, productivity measures, reimbursement methodologies, and risk management practices are in place.
- Support service line growth, program development, and strategic initiatives through data-driven financial analysis.
Governance, Compliance & External Relations
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as accrediting and licensing agency standards.
- Maintain hospital licensure, certifications, and accreditations in good standing.
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor to the Board of Directors and senior leadership team.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with lenders, auditors, regulators, physicians, and community stakeholders.
Leadership, People & Culture
- Ensure adequate staffing levels, including employed physicians and contract labor, aligned with operational and financial needs.
- Lead and mentor finance and revenue cycle teams, promoting accountability, professional development, and high performance.
- Oversee performance management processes, including goal setting, feedback, recognition, and corrective action.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, integrity, continuous improvement, and service excellence.
Quality & Community Engagement
- Demonstrate an active commitment to quality patient care and continuous quality improvement.
- Monitor and report financial and quality performance metrics to support improved patient outcomes and patient satisfaction.
- Represent the hospital positively within the community and participate in civic and professional activities as appropriate.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field (required)
- CPA preferred
- Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, or similar) strongly preferred
Experience
- Minimum 5–7 years of progressive hospital finance experience
- Prior Hospital Chief Financial Officer experience required
- Demonstrated experience in: 340 B
- Hospital financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
- Revenue cycle management and reimbursement optimization
- Accounting, accounts payable, payroll, treasury, audit, and tax
- Physician and provider contracting, including employment and professional services agreements
- Healthcare regulatory compliance and financial controls
