Highspring is actively seeking a hands-on Interim CFO to parachute into a PE backed portfolio business in the residential services sector during a time of transition. The primary focus of this role is to professionalize financial reporting, optimize cash flow management, implement scalable ERP systems, and establish a rigorous budgeting/KPI framework that satisfies new institutional investors.
The ideal candidate has experience "parachuting" into private equity-backed portfolio companies, conducting a 72-hour financial health check, and immediately implementing best practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Strategy & Institutional Reporting
- 72-Hour Rapid Assessment: Evaluate current financial health, cash position, and working capital needs within the first 72 hours of engagement.
- Board & Investor Reporting: Develop and maintain high-quality monthly financial reporting packages (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) and KPI dashboards tailored to institutional investor standards.
- Capital Management: Manage banking relationships, covenant compliance, and optimize liquidity.
2. Operational Finance & Process Improvement
- 13-Week Cash Flow Forecasting: Implement and manage 13-week rolling cash flow forecasting to ensure accurate cash management.
- System Implementation/Upgrade: Lead the upgrade or implementation of ERP systems and integrate accounting functions across any recent acquisitions.
- Internal Controls: Establish robust internal controls to minimize risk and improve financial accuracy.
3. Strategic Growth Support
- Job-Level Profitability Analysis: Analyze job-level reporting to determine true profitability across different service lines (install vs. service) and regions.
- Budgeting & Modeling: Lead the annual budgeting process and create financial models to support aggressive growth and potential add-on acquisitions.
4. Leadership & Transition
- Team Development: Assess the current finance and accounting team, filling gaps and mentoring staff to improve efficiency.
- Permanent CFO Search & Handoff: Assist the Board in defining the requirements for a permanent CFO and ensure a seamless transition of responsibilities upon departure.
Required Experience & Skills
- Experience: 15+ years of progressive financial experience, with a minimum of 3-5 years as a CFO or VP of Finance in a PE-backed environment for a $50-$100M services business.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong preference for experience in residential services, field services, or multi-site/asset-heavy operations.
- Tactical & Strategic: A "roll-up-the-sleeves" leader who can handle the technical details (accounting/close) while providing strategic insights to the CEO.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting; CPA or MBA preferred.
- Travel: This role will require heavy travel at the onset of the engagement(minimum 3 days a week) and can be reduced to bi-weekly or monthly travel after 6-8 weeks.
