DRA is seeking a Senior Vice President - NAMER - Business Operations & Advisory
The SVP NAMER - Business Operations & Advisory is responsible to lead DRA’s business operations and growth in the North America region. Required to strategically and tactically build a scalable best in class service model to NAMER and to create efficiencies within and across each team. Focus is on leading high-impact strategy projects in NAMER and representing projects spanning a variety of industries including new market entry, engineering solution development, process optimization, organizational redesign, and emerging technologies, among others.
The main focus of the role is to plan, direct and manage the performance of the following departments, as dictated by the overall strategy agreed by EXCO and to maintain and develop business growth in accordance with the agreed business strategy:
- Mining & Geology
- Process & Water Engineering
- Supporting proposals
- Supporting business development, marketing and sales
The SVP NAMER - Business Operations & Advisory is a leader who will ensure teams deliver business growth, uninterrupted business and customer operations, support cost reduction, and improves Minerals, Mining, Energy, Water and Infrastructure organizational effectiveness and human performance.
Key Performance Areas and Indicators (Responsibilities):
Strategy formulation & Implementation
- Directing strategy towards the profitable growth and operation of NAMER projects and diversification.
- Developing strategic operating plans that reflect the longer-term objectives and priorities established by the DRA Group Holdings board.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of DRA Group Operations vision and strategy.
- Analyze markets, size opportunities, evaluate competitive dynamics.
- Assess various approaches to growing the business and evaluate for strategic viability and operational feasibility.
- Build business cases for the most promising opportunities in NAMER.
- Conduct in-depth analyses of the NAMER business to proactively uncover opportunities for operational improvement, and then champion solutions in partnership with the lines of business and support teams.
- Lead execution for complex NAMER projects as needed.
- Work with Americas and APAC regional teams to automate existing processes and identify areas where technology and systems can enhance our solutions and deliver best results.
- Strategically adjusts business units’ activities, policies and practices to meet or exceed key performance metrics and customer satisfaction goals. Actively supports Americas and APAC in the achievement of goals.
- Execute the responsibilities of a company director according to lawful and ethical standards.
Operations Effectiveness
- Responsible for the sustainable growth of NAMER regional business units within DRA Group.
- Implementing and maintaining adequate operational planning and financial control systems.
- Input into the business/enterprise risk management system.
- Ensuring that the operating objectives and standards of performance are not only understood but owned by the management and employees.
- Oversee budget management including labour, benefits, company assets, capital investments, depreciation, and third party contracts.
- Closely monitoring the operating and financial results against plans and budgets.
- Taking remedial action where necessary and informing EVP of significant changes.
- Maintaining the operational performance of the NAMER.
- Assuming full accountability to the board for all NAMER operations.
- Representing DRA to major customers and professional associations.
- Supporting the EVP to achieve the one DRA strategy for the NAMER region.
- Supporting business development, marketing and sales.
- Evaluates fiscal metrics and adjusts activities to meet or exceed performance expectations. Coordinates with other business units as necessary to ensure solutions and execution of projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
- Ensures audits are conducted to ensure all required inspections and documentation are completed accurately and retained to ensure a minimum potential for loss.
- Manage overall safety portfolio including milestones, risks, issues, and driving People Based Safety.
- Lead ideation of process improvement ideas; define business cases and determine quantifiable impact/benefit of desired enhancements or issues to support prioritization of work efforts.
- Ensuring compliance with all statutory and fiduciary requirements in terms of the Companies Act.
People Performance
- Building and maintaining an effective executive team executive management team that provides subject matter guidance and expertise to their teams.
- Monitoring the performance of the NAMER Regional SVPs.
- Set and clearly communicate priorities and performance expectations, provide feedback and coaching, and conduct performance appraisals. Provide leadership and mentoring to staff, while remaining well-informed of projects and staying abreast of industry best practices.
- Train, develop, and manage teams, building collaboration and cross-departmental efficiency.
- Defines performance objectives for each executive / senior management member to include individual development plans that build strong succession pools for the NAMER business units.
Qualifications
- Engineering degree (essential) and MBA or equivalent (essential).
- Professional Engineering registration (PEng) required.
Experience
- 15+ years in mining or plant/EPCM environments, with both domestic and international exposure.
- 10+ years leading global projects and managing large, diverse teams.
- Strong background in continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and project management.
- Recognized leader within the global mining industry; financial/operations acumen is an advantage.
