LHH is partnering with a rapidly growing Louisville-based construction company seeking a high-performing Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive leadership team. This role is critical to driving financial discipline, navigating periods of transformation, and supporting scalable growth. The ideal candidate brings deep construction industry expertise, proven turnaround experience, and the leadership presence to operate as a true business partner to the CEO and ownership.
Job Description
- Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO, President, and executive team, providing financial leadership to support growth, profitability, and long-term value creation
- Lead all financial operations including accounting, finance, FP&A, treasury, bonding, banking, audit, tax, and risk management
- Oversee construction-specific financial functions including job costing, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, and cash flow forecasting
- Drive financial rigor and operational discipline during periods of rapid growth or turnaround, including margin improvement, cost controls, and capital structure optimization
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes aligned with strategic objectives
- Manage lender, bonding, and external stakeholder relationships; ensure compliance with covenants and reporting requirements
- Evaluate and improve financial systems, controls, and processes to support scalability and accurate, timely reporting
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-functioning finance and accounting team
- Act as a change leader, helping professionalize the organization while maintaining an entrepreneurial mindset
Requirements
- Active CPA required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred
- Significant experience in the construction industry, including job costing, WIP, and complex project-based accounting
- Proven turnaround or transformation experience, including stabilizing underperforming operations and driving sustainable improvements
- Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
- Strong executive presence with the ability to influence, challenge, and collaborate with senior leadership and ownership
- Deep experience working with banks, bonding companies, auditors, and external advisors
