Operational Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key executive leader responsible for the financial health, reporting, and strategic direction of a multi-entity manufacturing organization. This is an operational CFO role requiring a hands-on leader and strategic thinker who understands the business beyond the office, supports performance improvement across departments, and provides data-driven recommendations to ownership and the Board.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management functions
- Provide clear, actionable financial reporting and analysis to the Board of Directors to support efficient decision-making
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and drive performance improvements across the organization
- Serve as an operational CFO, actively engaging with operations to improve cost control, margins, and overall business performance
- Guide executive leadership with data-backed recommendations on strategy, investments, and key business decisions
- Evaluate expansion opportunities, new markets, capital investments, and underperforming cost centers
- Lead planning around external pressures such as inflation, tariffs, labor trends, and market conditions
- Own the evaluation, selection, and implementation of financial and operational systems, including ERP platforms
- Provide leadership across finance and influence executive management and key decision-makers
Preferred Systems Experience
- Microsoft ERP systems (Dynamics, Business Central, or similar)
- ShopVue or similar shop floor/job costing systems
- Visual ERP or legacy reporting systems
- Microsoft Power BI / Crystal Reports
- CDK systems, including aftermarket platforms
- CYMA Payroll, QuickBooks, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Comparable ERP, reporting, and financial systems experience considered
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience
- Strong background in GAAP accounting and current financial practices
- Experience in large-scale manufacturing environments
- Experience with multiple companies or business units under one organization
- Strong cost accounting, inventory, and operational finance experience
- Proven experience reporting to a Board of Directors
- Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills
- Self-funded insurance experience preferred
- Commercial equipment manufacturing experience a plus
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required
- MBA, CPA, or equivalent advanced financial certification strongly preferred
- A combination of advanced education and executive leadership experience is considered
