That said, this role is probably not the right fit for a highly polished Fortune 500 CFO looking to inherit a 50-person finance team and optimize an already mature operation. Obviously if this is you, you have an incredibly difficult job, but unless you're the legend who built the org for a Fortune 500 from the ground and are still there, 1) we couldn't afford you 2) I'd question your sanity for wanting to do it all over again.
This is far more likely to suit someone currently operating as:

The CEO I'm working for directly (AKA direct line for me, no HR meddling/ process slowing) described the ideal profile as:

I know the CEO well, have worked with him for a couple of years now, and I know he values speed of thought, a high IQ and (this is me reading between the lines here) someone he can trust that he knows the finance function is in good hands. It's hard to articulate that feeling into copy (as you've probably guessed, I'm no copywriter), but in his mind, he's drowning trying to launch a bank, this is a huge hire, he needs to know this person has "got this" when it comes to the finance org.

OK, so what does the role actually involve?
You will help build and establish the financial governance and reporting infrastructure for a regulated institutional platform operating within a complex multi-entity structure.
This is a highly hands-on leadership role.
You are not being hired to supervise from a distance. You will be expected to operate strategically while remaining close to the operational and regulatory detail.
You will:
- Build scalable financial governance and reporting infrastructure
- Support conditional approval and operational readiness efforts
- Help architect finance processes, controls, and reporting frameworks from the ground up
- Work closely with executive leadership on strategic and operational initiatives
- Coordinate across legal, compliance, operations, and regulatory stakeholders
- Support complex public-company and multi-entity reporting environments
- Help establish governance discipline, audit readiness, and financial controls appropriate for a regulated institutional platform
- Assist in building the long-term finance organization as the company scales
What you’ve likely done before:
- Worked within regulated financial environments
- Supported complex reporting, governance, and control frameworks
- Operated within fast-moving or evolving infrastructure businesses
- Worked alongside executive leadership and external stakeholders
- Built structure inside ambiguity instead of waiting for perfect process
- Developed strong accounting and financial reporting foundations
Possibly operated within:
- fintech
- banking
- trust companies
- custody platforms
- institutional digital assets
- public-company environments
- or regulated financial infrastructure businesses
Exposure to call reports or similar regulatory reporting environments is highly valuable with a CPA strongly preferred.
