The City of North Miami Beach, Florida, (pop. 43,104) is seeking a collaborative, strategic, and forward-thinking executive to serve as its next Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Reporting directly to the City Manager, the CFO serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and plays a central role in shaping the City’s financial direction, operational performance, and long-term sustainability.
Located in northeastern Miami-Dade County, North Miami Beach (NMB) is widely recognized as the “Crossroads of South Florida” as it is adjacent to the Golden Glades Interchange where I-95, Florida's Turnpike, and the Palmetto Expressway meet. The City of North Miami Beach provides a full range of municipal services for its citizens. These include public safety (fire protection is provided by Miami-Dade County), water, sewer, and stormwater utilities, sanitation services, public works, parks and recreation facilities, public library, code compliance, planning and zoning, and economic development. The organization has a workforce of roughly 460 employees that aligned with the City’s mission of creating a community “Where People Care.”
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the City’s financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, treasury, procurement, payroll, pension administration, and financial reporting. FY26 adopted budget for all funds was $253.6M. The Finance Department has an adopted $2.7M budget with 18 Full-Time positions. The City maintains AA- bond rating from Fitch Ratings and enjoys a healthy fund balance. It has received the GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
- Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in governmental finance with at least three (3) years of senior-level supervisory experience
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is required
- CGFO or CPFO certifications are highly desirable
The City offers a competitive executive compensation package: Salary Range: $145,309 – $208,578 annually; Comprehensive benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid leave which can be reviewed through this link: NMB employee benefits; Sign-on bonus $25,000 ($12,500 paid at start and $12,500 paid at the end of the first year); Relocation expenses reimbursable up to $25,000.
