OTE $225,000-250,000 (Base + Profit Sharing)
Legado Talent is hiring a CFO for a privately-held construction organization in the Charlotte metro. The Chief Financial Officer is the strategic and operational finance leader responsible for overseeing all financial functions of a growing construction organization, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, job costing, WIP reporting, and financial strategy. This leader builds and mentors the accounting team, establishes internal controls, oversees audits, manages banking and bonding relationships, and provides forward‑looking financial insight to guide decision‑making. The CFO is both strategic and hands‑on—comfortable rolling up their sleeves and ensuring the numbers reflect what’s happening on the job site.
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Provide strategic financial leadership to ownership and executive team, guiding long‑term planning, growth, and profitability.
- Develop financial models, forecasts, and scenario planning to support decision‑making across multiple projects and business units.
- Lead annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasting processes with a focus on accuracy, accountability, and operational alignment.
Construction Accounting & Project Financials
- Oversee all construction accounting functions, including job costing, WIP reporting, revenue recognition, and project margin analysis.
- Maintain accurate and timely WIP schedules, ensuring alignment with PMs, superintendents, and field operations.
- Implement and enforce job‑costing discipline, cost‑to‑complete forecasting, and project financial controls.
- Partner closely with project managers to validate budgets, track progress, and ensure financials reflect field realities.
Systems, Processes & Controls
- Oversee and optimize construction accounting systems (Sage Intacct, Sage100 Contractor, Foundation, Procore or similar).
- Lead system upgrades, integrations, and process improvements to increase accuracy, efficiency, and reporting visibility.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures across AP, AR, payroll, purchasing, and billing.
Reporting & Executive Communication
- Deliver timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with clear insights and actionable recommendations.
- Provide project‑level reporting, margin analysis, and variance explanations to ownership and operations leadership.
- Translate financial data into operational insights for non‑finance leaders.
Team Leadership
- Create a culture of partnership between finance and operations, ensuring PMs and field teams have the tools and support needed.
- Serve as a hands‑on leader who can roll up their sleeves, dive into details, and support the team during peak workload periods.
Operational Partnership
- Work directly with PMs, superintendents, and field leaders to understand project realities and ensure financial alignment.
- Support estimating, procurement, and project planning with accurate cost data and financial insights.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
- 5+ years of financial leadership experience within construction or general contracting preferred but not required
- Experience with construction accounting systems (Sage and Procore preferred)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Experience improving financial systems and processes
- Experience in leadership and managing a team
- Experience guiding long‑term planning, growth, and profitability.
