Chief Financial Officer
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Overview:
We are conducting an executive search for a Chief Financial Officer on behalf of a mission-driven community development organization focused on neighborhood revitalization, affordable housing, economic mobility, and long-term community investment.
As a member of the executive leadership team, the CFO will lead financial strategy, accounting, treasury, financial planning and analysis, compliance, risk management, financial reporting, and operational finance leadership. This individual will partner closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, funders, lenders, and community stakeholders to ensure strong financial stewardship, organizational effectiveness, and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO, executive leadership team, and Board of Directors.
- Translate organizational objectives into a clear financial roadmap.
- Support decision-making through planning, forecasting, analytics, and strategic partnership.
Financial Strategy & Capital Stewardship
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning.
- Oversee philanthropic, public, debt, and mission-oriented investment capital.
- Evaluate financing opportunities and resource allocation strategies that support organizational priorities.
Financial Operations & Compliance
- Oversee treasury, accounting, financial reporting, audits, internal controls, and liquidity management.
- Ensure compliance with donor requirements, financing agreements, nonprofit accounting standards, and regulatory obligations.
- Lead grant administration, stakeholder reporting, and risk management activities.
Financial Systems & Operational Excellence
- Enhance reporting, analytics, automation, and financial infrastructure.
- Improve visibility, scalability, and operational effectiveness across the organization.
- Ensure financial information is timely, accurate, and actionable.
Board, Stakeholder & Team Leadership
- Serve as the primary financial liaison to the Board, Finance Committee, and Audit Committee.
- Maintain strong relationships with funders, lenders, auditors, and community stakeholders.
- Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing finance team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related discipline required; MBA, CPA, CFA, or other advanced financial credential preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including 5+ years in a senior executive finance role.
- Broad expertise across financial strategy, accounting, budgeting, FP&A, treasury, compliance, risk management, governance, and organizational leadership.
- Demonstrated success building scalable financial infrastructure, governance frameworks, and high-performing teams.
- Experience within nonprofit organizations, community development entities, affordable housing organizations, real estate investment organizations, foundations, impact investing platforms, or similarly complex mission-driven environments strongly preferred.
- Proven success managing diverse capital sources, including philanthropy, grants, debt financing, public funding, and mission-oriented investment capital.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting, financial compliance, reporting, stewardship, and governance best practices.
- Credible executive presence with boards, executive leadership teams, funders, lenders, and external partners.
- Collaborative, action-oriented leader who balances strategic vision with hands-on execution and thrives in dynamic environments.
