Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

We are conducting a confidential search for a Chief Financial Officer with a well-established and growing wholesale distribution company located in Central New Jersey.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for a well-rounded financial executive who can oversee all aspects of financial operations, including accounting, cash management, credit, compliance, human resources, and legal coordination. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented CPA with strong experience in inventory management, working capital, and operational finance who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting operations, including month-end close, year-end close, and audit compliance
- Manage daily cash flow, banking relationships, and line-of-credit compliance
- Oversee inventory accounting, including cost allocations and Section 263A (UNICAP) requirements
- Manage accounts receivable, credit approvals, customer payments, credits, aging, and collections
- Approve accounts payable vendor payments, positive pay processes, travel expenses, and reimbursements
- Oversee payroll, commissions, employee benefits, and 401(k) administration
- Coordinate federal and state tax filings along with external CPA relationships
- Manage import-related financial processes, including international wires, freight allocations, duties/tariffs, and container tracking
- Oversee legal matters, insurance requirements, and record retention processes
- Ensure sales tax compliance and regulatory reporting requirements
- Identify and implement process improvements while maintaining accounting system integrity
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- Active CPA license required
- 10–15+ years of progressive accounting, financial management, and business leadership experience
- 5+ years of experience within wholesale, distribution, manufacturing, or other inventory-driven environments
- Strong understanding of GAAP, inventory accounting, cash management, and working capital optimization
- Proven experience leading, mentoring, and developing accounting teams
- Advanced Excel skills and strong accounting system proficiency (QuickBooks experience preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to support strategic business decisions while remaining hands-on with day-to-day operations
