Position Overview
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as the organization's principal financial executive, responsible for driving financial strategy, capital planning, and long-term fiscal sustainability. Working in close partnership with the Founder and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CFO is responsible for translating the company's strategic direction into financial strategies, ensuring that major financial initiatives, capital planning, fundraising activities, and investment decisions remain aligned with the Founder's approved business objectives.
The ideal candidate is a strategic finance executive with experience supporting high-growth startups through financial planning, capital raising, investor relations, and regulatory compliance. The CFO should have proven expertise in developing sophisticated financial models, supporting venture capital fundraising, preparing investor-ready financial documentation, and leading financial due diligence processes. This role requires a strong understanding of startup finance, company valuation, capital structures, and financial strategies that support scalable growth and long-term enterprise value.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership
• Develop and execute the company's financial strategy in close partnership with the Founder and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), ensuring alignment with the Founder's vision, strategic direction, and approved business objectives.
• Provide strategic financial guidance to the Founder, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and executive leadership team.
• Drive enterprise-wide financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, capital allocation, and performance management.
• Develop financial strategies that support business scalability, profitability, and long-term enterprise value.
Financial Planning, Modeling & Performance
• Develop and maintain comprehensive financial models supporting strategic planning, fundraising, company valuation, and long-term business growth.
• Build operating models, revenue projections, cash flow forecasts, scenario analyses, and capital planning models to support executive decision-making.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash flow management, and overall financial performance.
• Monitor financial performance and optimize capital allocation while maintaining financial discipline and operational efficiency.
Capital Strategy, Fundraising & Investor Relations
• Lead and execute the company's capital-raising strategy across multiple financing stages, including Pre-Seed, Seed, Series A, Series B, Series C, and subsequent growth-stage funding rounds.
• Develop fundraising strategies, financial models, valuation analyses, investor presentations, business plans, and other investment materials in partnership with the CEO.
• Build and maintain relationships with venture capital firms, institutional investors, private equity firms, investment banks, financial institutions, and strategic partners.
• Lead investor due diligence, coordinate information requests, and maintain investor-ready financial documentation, including Virtual Data Rooms (VDRs), capitalization tables (cap tables), financial statements, and supporting materials.
• Prepare Board presentations, investor reporting, and executive financial updates.
• Support mergers, acquisitions, strategic investments, IPO readiness, and other corporate finance initiatives.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, regulatory requirements, and corporate governance standards.
• Establish and strengthen internal controls, financial policies, and enterprise risk management practices.
• Oversee annual audits, tax planning, and regulatory reporting.
• Ensure financial reporting and corporate governance practices support investor confidence and regulatory compliance.
Organizational Leadership
• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing finance organization.
• Promote data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to evaluate strategic investments, acquisitions, and growth initiatives.
• Foster a culture of accountability, financial discipline, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
• Professional certifications such as CFA and/or CPA designation, MBA, or an equivalent advanced finance qualification are highly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including executive-level responsibility within a startup, scale-up, or high-growth organization.
• Proven success leading financial strategy, corporate finance, and capital planning within a high-growth business.
• Demonstrated expertise in developing sophisticated financial models, company valuation analyses, capital allocation strategies, fundraising scenarios, and long-term financial plans that support venture-backed growth.
• Proven track record of successfully supporting or leading capital-raising initiatives across multiple financing stages, including Pre-Seed, Seed, Series A, Series B, Series C, and subsequent growth-stage funding rounds.
• Experience developing fundraising strategies, investor presentations, business plans, financial projections, valuation models, and investment materials for venture capital firms, institutional investors, and strategic partners.
• Experience preparing investor-ready financial documentation and supporting due diligence processes, including managing Virtual Data Rooms (VDRs) for fundraising, mergers and acquisitions, or other strategic transactions.
• Strong understanding of startup finance, capitalization tables (cap tables), equity ownership, dilution, company valuation, term sheets, venture capital investment structures, and corporate finance.
• Experience working directly with Founders, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), investors, auditors, investment banks, and executive leadership teams.
• Excellent leadership, analytical, communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
• Executive finance leadership experience within fintech, financial services, banking, SaaS, or technology companies.
• Demonstrated success raising venture capital funding across multiple financing rounds and supporting companies through significant growth milestones, including IPO readiness or other strategic exit events.
• Experience working with venture capital firms, institutional investors, private equity firms, investment banks, and strategic investment partners.
• Experience leading mergers, acquisitions, strategic partnerships, or successful business exits (e.g., acquisition, merger, or IPO).
• Public company reporting or IPO readiness experience.
