Chief Financial Officer - Independent Media Agency (NYC)
Robert Half is partnering with an established, independent media and measurement agency in New York on a confidential search for its next CFO. This is a planned succession: the current CFO is preparing to retire and will personally onboard their replacement.
The firm has a strong reputation in performance media and analytics and is on a solid growth trajectory. This is a financially healthy business looking for a hands-on finance leader to help scale it into its next chapter.
The Role
Reporting directly to executive leadership, the CFO will own accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash management while leading a team of four. This is a true strategic-plus-operational seat: heavy day-to-day involvement early on, with growing influence over company strategy as the transition progresses.
What You'll Own
- Accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management
- Managing, mentoring and developing a 4-person accounting team
- Partnering with executive leadership on financial strategy and business planning
- Timely reporting and analysis that actually drives leadership decisions
- Internal controls and compliance
- Audit, tax, banking and external financial relationships
- Evaluating and upgrading financial systems and reporting infrastructure
- Financial insight into growth opportunities and investments
What You Bring
- 10-15+ years progressive finance leadership: CFO, VP Finance, or senior finance executive
- Media, advertising, marketing or professional-services experience strongly preferred
- Big 4 or public accounting foundation a plus; CPA and/or MBA preferred but not required
- Strong technical chops across accounting, FP&A, reporting and cash management
- Proven experience leading a lean team, comfortable being both strategist and operator
- Executive presence, sharp communication, ability to partner directly with senior leadership
Logistics
- Hybrid: 2 days/week in the NYC office
- Compensation: $250-350k base + bonus + profit sharing depending on experience
Why This Role
- Direct shadow-and-transition period with the outgoing CFO before full handoff
- International travel opportunities
- Strong employer-paid benefits and 401(k) match
- Six-week paid sabbatical after five years
- Small, collaborative, people-first culture at a firm that's winning in its category
This is a rare chance to step into a financially strong, well-regarded agency at an inflection point, with a built-in transition runway and real influence over what comes next.
