Our client, a growing, privately held organization, is seeking a hands-on Chief Operating Officer / Chief Financial Officer (COO/CFO) to provide strategic and operational leadership across the business. This executive will partner closely with the CEO and ownership to drive company strategy, financial performance, operational efficiency, organizational development, and long-term growth.
The COO/CFO will oversee the company's day-to-day operations while maintaining a strong understanding of financial performance, cash flow, budgets, P&L, balance sheet, banking relationships, inventory, and working capital. This is a highly visible leadership role for someone who can move seamlessly between high-level strategy and hands-on execution.
The ideal candidate is a highly organized, financially savvy, collaborative leader with strong business judgment who is comfortable making decisions, solving problems, and holding leaders accountable for results.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Executive Leadership
- Partner with the CEO and ownership to establish and execute the company's short- and long-term strategic vision.
- Lead strategy meetings with ownership and senior leadership, establishing goals, priorities, and actionable plans.
- Translate company strategy into measurable operational and financial objectives.
- Oversee the organization's overall operations and ensure strategic goals are achieved.
- Lead, coach, and evaluate senior leaders and department heads.
- Review recommendations from Vice Presidents, Directors, and other leaders and make sound, timely business decisions.
- Monitor internal and external market trends, competitive conditions, industry developments, and opportunities for growth.
- Identify opportunities for expansion, new markets, and business development.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with banking, financial, community, industry, and other external partners.
Financial Leadership
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the company's financial position and day-to-day financial performance.
- Oversee annual budgets and monthly financial reviews, including P&L and balance sheet performance.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports and provide recommendations to ownership and senior leadership.
- Develop and maintain weekly cash flow projections.
- Monitor profitability and identify opportunities to improve margins and financial performance.
- Review financial forecasts and projections, including six-month forward factory projections.
- Review general ledger and trial balance activity, including historically problematic accounts and payroll/labor accruals.
- Review accounts payable, invoices, check runs, and outstanding questions to ensure financial accuracy and accountability.
- Review and approve commission calculations, payroll expenses, overtime, and staffing costs.
- Maintain awareness of tax liabilities, implications, exemptions, and other financial considerations.
- Oversee financial compliance calculations and reporting, including fixed-charge coverage and borrowing-base requirements.
- Review inventory calculations, excess inventory, and related adjustments.
Banking & Risk Management
- Manage banking relationships and negotiations.
- Prepare and lead quarterly discussions with banking partners.
- Review and maintain compliance certificates and borrowing-base calculations.
- Oversee insurance claims, renewals, and negotiations.
- Lead medical insurance renewal discussions and plan selection in partnership with HR.
- Ensure the company maintains compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
Operations & Process Improvement
- Oversee day-to-day operations across warehouse, manufacturing, sales, IT, marketing, HR, and other functions.
- Review daily warehouse performance and address operational concerns.
- Partner with warehouse and operations leadership to identify issues, solve problems, and improve performance.
- Maximize efficiency and productivity through data analysis and cross-functional collaboration.
- Identify and implement new processes, technologies, and systems that improve operational efficiency.
- Oversee facility and warehouse maintenance approvals and capital needs.
- Maintain oversight of safety and compliance programs, including workplace safety, forklift safety, heat and illness prevention, fire inspections, and related initiatives.
- Partner with IT leadership on technology projects, system implementations, and business needs.
- Oversee product development rollouts, including budgeting, planning, and operational execution.
Sales & Commercial Strategy
- Partner with sales leadership to review pipeline, opportunities, forecasts, and overall sales performance.
- Provide the sales organization with a broader perspective on company strategy, pricing, inventory, warehousing, and logistics.
- Develop and evaluate pricing strategies and price levels.
- Review and approve marketing initiatives and marketing plans.
- Evaluate marketing performance and related business opportunities.
- Support customer, vendor, and business development strategies that contribute to company growth and profitability.
People & Organizational Leadership
- Partner with HR to develop and implement company-wide programs, policies, and initiatives.
- Oversee effective recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance management, and retention.
- Support workforce planning and organizational development.
- Review staffing levels, overtime, labor costs, and workforce productivity.
- Coach and mentor leaders and employees throughout the organization.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and high performance.
- Maintain strong relationships with employees and leadership at all levels.
Operational Cadence & Reporting
The COO/CFO will maintain regular oversight of key business activities, including:
- Daily warehouse performance reporting.
- Weekly cash flow projections and invoice/check-run reviews.
- Weekly sales pipeline and opportunity reviews.
- Biweekly management meetings and tracking of organizational priorities.
- Monthly P&L and balance sheet reviews.
- Monthly factory projections and inventory reviews.
- Annual budgeting and salary planning.
- Quarterly banking and financial performance reviews.
- Ongoing review of financial, operational, sales, inventory, labor, and productivity metrics.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Operations, or a related field preferred.
- Significant progressive leadership experience in finance, operations, or both.
- Experience overseeing financial performance, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, and profitability.
- Strong operational leadership experience in a manufacturing, distribution, warehouse, or similarly complex business environment preferred.
- Experience managing banking relationships, financial compliance, and working capital.
- Strong understanding of inventory, labor costs, pricing, procurement, and operational expenses.
- Experience leading and developing senior-level teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively with ownership, executives, employees, customers, vendors, and external partners.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary $250K – $300K based on experience
- Annual bonus eligibility based on experience
