Overview
A small information services business operating in the global talent and workforce sector is hiring a CFO. The role is fully remote, with flexibility for candidates based in the UK or US, and is anchored to London for listing purposes. This is a permanent, full-time position paying £80,000 - £100,000 (or USD equivalent) plus equity options.
The business is at a genuine inflection point: growing fast and expanding into the US, with financial processes that need to catch up with that ambition. This role exists to build the financial infrastructure the business needs to scale, not to maintain what's already there. The right person will be equally at home designing a volume invoicing system as they are presenting KPIs to the leadership team. If you've built finance functions from scratch before and you find the detail as satisfying as the strategy, this is a role where you'll have real impact and real ownership from day one.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable, high-volume invoicing processes
- Build a KPI dashboard that gives leadership a clear, reliable view of performance
- Own day-to-day financial operations end to end
- Provide strategic financial input to support business decisions
- Formalise financial processes to support US expansion
- Produce management information that directly informs board decisions
Requirements
Must-haves:
- Built financial processes and systems from scratch
- Seen that work through to changing how decisions are made at board level
- Comfortable with hands-on processing as well as strategic input
- CFO or financial controller background
- Experience in a small business or lean finance environment
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience in the talent, workforce, or information services sector
- Familiarity with US financial and regulatory requirements
- Exposure to cross-border or multi-currency operations
What Success Looks Like
- Volume invoicing processes are running smoothly and built to scale within the first year
- A KPI dashboard is in place and actively used by the leadership team to make decisions
- Financial processes are formalised and documented, not just functional
- The US expansion has proper financial infrastructure behind it
- The leadership team has a clear, consistent view of the numbers for the first time
Team and Culture
- Small, lean business where everyone, including the most senior hires, gets into the detail
- No finance team beneath this role: the person appointed owns the work top to bottom
- Strategic input is genuinely valued, and this hire will have a seat at the table
Challenges
- There is no finance team to delegate to, so the day-to-day processing sits with this person alongside everything else
- The business is growing quickly, and the financial infrastructure needs to be built while operations keep moving
- Building from scratch in a scaling business means tolerating some ambiguity and making decisions without a full picture
