A well-established, mission-driven nonprofit organization in the Hudson Valley is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to join its executive leadership team. The organization provides a broad range of community-based health and human services.
This is an opportunity for an experienced nonprofit CFO to serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and Board while leading the financial strategy of a complex, multi-program organization.
Job Description
The Chief Financial Officer will provide strategic and operational leadership across all financial functions, including financial planning and analysis, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, revenue cycle, grants and government contracts, regulatory compliance, audits, risk management, and long-term financial planning.
The CFO will serve as a key advisor to the CEO and Board, helping translate financial information into organizational strategy while ensuring strong financial controls, regulatory compliance and long-term sustainability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading financial strategy, annual budgeting, forecasting and long-range financial planning
- Advising the CEO, executive leadership and Board on financial performance, risk and strategic opportunities
- Overseeing accounting, financial reporting, cash flow, AP/AR and payroll
- Leading annual financial and single audits and Form 990 preparation
- Managing the financial lifecycle of government grants and contracts, including budgeting, reporting, compliance and closeout
- Overseeing revenue cycle, reimbursement, billing and collections
- Ensuring compliance with government funding, healthcare reimbursement and contractual requirements
- Maintaining strong internal controls and financial policies
- Overseeing banking, lending, debt and capital financing relationships
- Providing financial analysis to support growth, investments and operational decisions
- Leading and developing the Finance team
- Presenting financial performance and recommendations to the Board and relevant committees
Qualifications
- Previous experience serving as a Chief Financial Officer required
- Significant nonprofit financial leadership experience required
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience
- Experience leading finance within a complex, multi-program organization of comparable scale
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and audit
- Significant experience with government grants and contracts
- Experience working directly with executive leadership and Boards
- Experience with government-funded housing programs, including HUD funding, highly desirable
- Behavioral health, healthcare or human-services experience highly desirable
- Experience with Medicaid, managed care, government reimbursement and/or revenue cycle strongly preferred
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance or related discipline
- CPA strongly preferred
- Strong communication, leadership, analytical and strategic decision-making skills
Compensation: $180,000–$200,000 base salary, commensurate with experience and qualifications
