Summary
We are looking for an experienced Chief Financial Officer to perform effective risk management and plan the organization’s financial strategy at two of our portfolio companies: a financial services company headquartered in Vancouver, BC, and an innovative supplier of choice for wholesale vegetable growers and retailers of floral plants based in Langley, BC. A CFO must be well-versed in all aspects of financial management ranging from simple accounting to broad investment and banking operations.
We are looking for a strategic player, with a holistic forward-looking view of the business, and an expert in financial reporting and subsequent financial result elaboration.
Your role will include, but is not limited to:
Corporate Service
- Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the CEO and make recommendations on both strategy and operations.
- Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities.
- Support the assessment of new initiatives and proposals
- Advise and recommend changes in operations to ensure continued fiscal health of the organization.
- Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies and department reports as required for the CEO.
- Prepares and/or delivers reports to the Board as directed by the CEO.
- Establishes relations with banks and other financial institutions.
Leadership
- Engage others to accomplish organizational goals and strategies, with a commitment to succession planning and the ability to develop and empower direct and indirect reports.
- Provide mentoring support
- Build and foster a cohesive team while creating a positive culture and productive work environment that attracts and retains top talent.
Internal accounting functions
- Overseeing day-to-day accounting activities such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, payroll and expenses, tax filings, including corporate income, and GST/PST/HST
- Overseeing treasury and cash management activities
- Developing, managing, and reviewing financial controls
- Developing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures to improve internal controls
- Leading and developing a robust internal finance function
Financial Reporting
- Managing the compilation and review of annual financial statements
- Preparing monthly financial reporting and internal KPIs as required
- Coordinating the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and performance analysis activities
Accounting and Tax Compliance
- Leading the annual financial Audit and Review engagements (ASPE), and assisting with other accounting engagements as applicable
- Researching technical accounting issues for compliance
- Coordinating and reviewing basic tax compliance, including corporate taxes, payroll, GST and forms reporting
Financial Advisory functions
- Providing key insights for business improvement for a variety of companies within the group
- Leading and developing cost management and profitability improvement initiatives
- Preparing and presenting analyses to support senior management’s strategic decision-making process
- Advise senior management on complex structuring, finance and accounting issues
Required Skills, Knowledge or Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in business/finance/accounting or a related field
- Accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) required
- 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 5 years of CFO related experience.
- Knowledge of ASPE and IFRS is required
- Other financial designations are a plus
- Experience dealing with international subsidiaries and operations is a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Excellent internal and external relationship management skills.
- Strong analytical, decision making, planning, and organizational skills.
- Comfortable working with autonomy and ownership in a fast-paced environment, taking the initiative to resolve issues
Salary & Benefits
- $220,000 per year
