Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced and high-performing Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead and oversee the company’s accounting and finance function. With the assistance of an experienced controller and accounting clerk, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the company’s financial management and reporting activities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is a self-starter, enjoys establishing and refining processes, training others, and working closely with senior executives in leading the finance team to its full potential.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Oversee and support the annual audit conducted by the company’s external accountants;
- Plan, direct, and participate in the completion of quarterly and monthly financial reporting deliverables to key stakeholders;
- Oversee the controller’s completion of government compliance deliverables such as GST/HST returns, payroll remittances, etc.;
- Monitor the controller’s timely completion of key bookkeeping and month-end deliverables such as bank reconciliations, accruals, intercompany tie-outs, etc.;
- Serve as an ongoing resource to the controller and accounting clerk for ad-hoc technical questions;
- Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting processes, and system workflows to help streamline and optimize the finance function’s day-to-day activities;
- Collaborate with other teams and departments to ensure consistent and accurate use of the company’s ERP system;
- Assist the senior leadership team in strategic planning, financial resource management, and other ad-hoc requests; and Help train and direct accounting personnel.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive experience in financial or management accounting (in industry, public accounting, or a combination thereof);
- 2+ years of experience in a comparable financial leadership role, such as Chief Financial Officer, Director of Finance, or Senior Controller;
- Canadian accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA, or CA) preferred;
- Experience in the manufacturing and/or automotive industry is considered a strong asset;
- Familiarity with or experience in a Microsoft ERP system such as Navision, Dynamics, or Business Central is considered a strong asset;
- Experience with developing and maintaining internal controls, accounting processes, and system workflows;
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; and
- Strong leadership skills and an ability to coach and develop team members.
