Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead our financial operations at Merrimak Capital. The CFO will be instrumental in driving financial performance and operational excellence, ensuring that our financial strategies align with our business objectives and enhance our competitive positioning in the leasing market.
In this role, the CFO will oversee all financial aspects of the company, including financial planning, analysis, and reporting, while also optimizing operational processes to improve efficiency and profitability. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in financial management, a deep understanding of the leasing industry, and a commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
The CFO will collaborate closely with the executive team and other departments to develop strategies and implement processes that foster Merrimak’s organic growth and manage risks. This position will require a blend of analytical skills, strategic thinking, and strong leadership capabilities to guide the finance team and the overall staff while supporting the company's operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Performance
- Financial Analysis and Reporting: Provide timely and insightful financial analysis and reporting to senior management and to support strategic decision-making.
- Financial Strategy Development: Develop and implement comprehensive financial strategies to support the company's growth objectives and optimize financial performance.
- Financial Statement Oversight: Oversee the preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements, including timely interim financial reporting and annual audit reporting.
- Cash Management: Manage cash flow, liquidity, and capital allocation to support operational needs and investment opportunities. Strategically use cash for interim funding for leases and optimize cash balance projected to exceed six figures in the near future.
- Collaborate with Accounting Professionals: Work side by side with the Chief Accounting Officer and outside CPA and audit firm to ensure best-in-class service, maintaining high standards of financial integrity and reporting.
Operations
- Leadership & Staff Management: Lead and manage the administrative team, providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a collaborative environment. Develop staff training programs to continually improve the team’s skill set and efficiency.
- Recruiting and Training: Oversee recruiting, training, and performance management of administrative staff.
- Human Resources: Work with Human Resources Generalist in order to manage all HR needs (payroll, policy creation and enforcement, shopping company benefits, annual amendments to the handbook, and all other HR matters that arise).
- Administrative Oversight: Work in (or with a local manager in) Salt Lake City company headquarters full-time to achieve administrative and staffing goals. Oversee general office management, including lease agreements, tenant relations, supplies, and employee experience. Manage company-wide scheduling, meetings, and internal communication systems to ensure smooth operations.
- Vendor Management: Collaborate with department heads on vendor management and contract negotiation and management (annual CRM and ERP system renewals, IT contracts and cybersecurity audits, etc.).
- Budget Management: Develop and manage the administrative department’s budget, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation.
Management and Process Implementation
- Team Leadership: Lead the finance and billing team in day-to-day operations, including billing and accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and financial reporting. Inform key stakeholders of the state of accounts in a
- Billing Oversight: Oversee billing specialists and the collections process to ensure accuracy and efficiency in financial operations with a focus on client customization. Develop strategies to integrate billing systems with customers' financial platforms for seamless transactions.
- Documentation Oversight: Oversee the documentation process, ensuring all required documents are prepared and distributed to customers within five working days. Monitor compliance with proposed and critical terms and conditions that impact deal economics and profitability, while maintaining organized records for future re-writes.
- Deal Economics Optimization: Optimize deal economics by carefully managing and assuring terms and conditions that embed the present value of the leases in the contracts. Ensure favorable outcomes for the company through a deep understanding of the time value of money and all lease terms affecting deal economics. Collaborate immediately with sales to optimize lease economics and prevent leases from commencing unless profitable, requiring sign-off from the CEO for any leases that do not have profitable projections.
- Funding Management: Manage funding dates to maximize deal economics and enhance profitability. Optimize pre-commencement rent, progress payments and deferred payments to optimize deal economics.
- Payment Negotiations: Exercise discretion in billing, informing the billing department to defer payment requests to maintain beneficial month-to-month equipment renewals, thereby maximizing revenue stability and reducing equipment returns.
- Policy Implementation: Implement robust policies and procedures, internal controls, and risk management processes to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Other Duties as Assigned
- Strategic Partnerships: Support the development and management of strategic partnerships to generate business opportunities and enhance company growth, including negotiating contracts and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
- AI Implementation: Oversee the implementation of AI for operational efficiencies, identifying areas for automation to reduce costs and enhance service delivery. Evaluate AI tools to optimize inventory management, predictive analytics for customer needs, and streamline operations.
- Collaboration with Leadership: Collaborate with executive leadership to develop strategic initiatives that align with the company's long-term goals, ensuring cohesive departmental efforts towards shared objectives.
- Global Leasing Program: Investigate, evaluate, and implement a global leasing program if financially worthwhile, aiming to enhance the company’s market reach and profitability.
- Sustainability: Manage and generate company Sustainability goals and work with third parties or in-house employees to make sure we appropriately achieve stated goals.
- Industry Awareness: Stay abreast of industry trends, market dynamics, and the competitive landscape to identify opportunities and mitigate risks.
- Other duties as assigned by the CEO and COO.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 20 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles, with at least 10 years in a senior financial leadership position (CFO, SVP, Director, etc.).
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration, or a related field; MBA or CPA, preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret financial data to drive strategic insights and decision-making.
- Extensive knowledge of financial management principles, practices, and regulations, particularly within the equipment leasing or financial services industry.
- Exceptional organizational and leadership skills to manage multiple priorities effectively, demonstrating adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven management capabilities, with experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficient in office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace) and administrative management tools (CRM, ERP systems). Extensive Salesforce and Netsuite experience are strongly preferred.

Compensation:
- $300,000.00, commensurate with experience, as well as participation in Merrimak’s discretionary bonus and Phantom Stock program.
