As the company continues to scale, we are seeking a strategic and hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to strengthen our financial foundation, drive growth, and support our expanding investments portfolio.
Position Overview
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for overseeing all financial operations. This role requires a hands-on, detail-oriented leader who thrives in a dynamic environment and can balance strategic vision with day-to-day financial management.
The CFO will also oversee and manage the company’s investments, real estate holdings, joint ventures, and long-term financial strategies, ensuring strong returns and alignment with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Provide strategic financial direction to the CEO and executive team to support company growth and profitability.
- Develop and execute long-term financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting for all business units.
- Lead financial modeling, risk analysis, and scenario planning to support strategic decision-making.
- Oversee corporate banking, financing arrangements, and capital structure management.
Financial Operations & Controls
- Manage all day-to-day financial operations, including accounting, AP/AR, payroll, treasury, and cash flow.
- Ensure accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain strong internal controls, ensure compliance with ASPE/IFRS and all regulatory requirements.
- Oversee year-end audits, reviews, and tax filings; serve as primary contact with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Optimize financial systems, reporting tools, and accounting processes for efficiency and accuracy.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Reporting
- Lead the development and management of company-wide budgets, cost controls, and financial KPIs.
- Provide timely financial reports and dashboards to leadership and key stakeholders.
- Analyze job costing, project profitability, and variance reports for all construction projects.
- Oversee cash-flow forecasting and liquidity planning to support operations and future growth.
Investments & Asset Management
- Manage the company’s investment portfolio, including real estate assets, development projects, private investments, and joint ventures.
- Conduct due diligence, financial analysis, and ROI assessments for new investment opportunities.
- Monitor performance of existing investments and recommend adjustments to optimize returns.
- Work with legal, banking, and investment partners to structure deals and secure financing.
Business Growth & Operational Support
- Support strategic initiatives such as acquisitions, partnerships, and expansion into new markets.
- Provide financial leadership for project planning, estimating, and contract negotiations.
- Oversee insurance, risk management, bonding, and financial compliance for construction operations.
- Collaborate with Project Management, Operations, and Estimating teams to ensure accurate financial tracking and projections.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and mentor the finance team, ensuring strong performance, professional growth, and effective succession planning.
- Build a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement within the finance function.
Qualifications
- CPA designation required; MBA or equivalent an asset.
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally within construction, real estate development, or design-build environments.
- Proven experience as a hands-on financial leader capable of working both strategically and operationally.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, and project financial controls.
- Experience managing investment portfolios, real estate assets, and capital projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage banking relationships, lending agreements, and capital structures.
- Exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- High proficiency with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Jonas, Procore, Sage, Viewpoint), Excel, and financial modeling tools.
