About The Roles
At Blackbird, our mission is to be a generational owner of the most ambitious tech companies founded by Aussies and Kiwis, wherever in the world they might be. To match this ambition as we grow, we are building a world-class operations function to ensure that we provide the highest quality investment experience to our portfolio companies and founders.
We’re looking for a Business Operations Analyst or a Business Operations Associate to join our Operations team to provide coverage for a parental leave contract. You’ll work closely with Cattleya Vongpraseuth (Senior Operations Associate) Jun Hu (Operations Associate), and Jane Shaw (Operations Analyst) on our quest to become a world class investment firm.
The positions are generalist roles that cover the full gamut of operations, finance and compliance. We are looking for someone who loves a challenge, has a growth mindset and an undeniable thirst for learning.
Here is a brief overview of the type of work you will do:
- Fund Operations: Contributing to end-to-end processes related to investor onboarding, capital calls, distributions and investor transfers.
- Investment Operations - Ensuring we satisfy the required internal controls and compliance processes (investment restrictions, background checks, etc.) before making investments.
- Investor Reporting: Helping to prepare and automate reports for our investors, including regulated superannuation funds.
- Portfolio Reporting: Regularly collecting information from our portfolio companies and aggregating it into various reporting formats.
- Compliance : Working closely with the team and our advisors to help ensure that Blackbird is compliant with policies and regulations, especially relating to ESVCLP, AML/KYC, PFIC and FATCA/CRS.
- Operational Processes: Monitoring and improving our internal processes. Process improvement and automation should be at the forefront of your thinking.
- Data Understanding and improving Blackbird’s data collection from end-to-end.
- Key Controls: Ensuring that all the key controls in our internal processes are fit for purpose and satisfy our audit requirements.
Position Requirements

If this role excites you and you meet most of the requirements, we encourage you to apply. We value potential and are committed to supporting growth in this role.
Your background is less important than the key skills. The following are advantageous but not essential
- Associate Role
- Three or more years of operations, tax, accounting, banking and/or consulting experience, ideally in or with exposure to financial services or funds management where you have been the ‘go to’ person and owned projects end-to-end.
- Practical, hands on experience in supporting the design and implementation of automation tools and efficiency projects, ideally in a financial services or funds management business.
- Industry experience advising on or working in one or more of the following areas:
- AML/CTF;
- ESVCLP regime;
- FATCA/CRS;
- Australian or offshore tax regimes.
- Analyst Role
- One or more years of operations, tax, accounting, banking and/or consulting experience, ideally in or with exposure to financial services or funds management.
- Practical, hands on experience in the implementation of automation tools and efficiency projects, ideally in a financial services or funds management business.
- Basic knowledge of one or more of the following areas:
- AML/CTF;
- ESVCLP regime;
- FATCA/CRS;
- Australian or offshore tax regimes.
- Both Roles
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, great at communicating both internally and externally and a hospitality mindset in dealing with all stakeholders.
- A passion for creativity and high ownership mentality to build and improve current practices, processes and controls.
- A meticulous attention to detail and ability to multitask, prioritise and work well under pressure.
- Being hands on and happy to jump into the weeds to assist the team with any task, no matter how big or small.
We’re looking for someone who is as passionate as us about building an iconic investment business. You must have a high ownership mentality and the ability to take responsibility for goals and outcomes.
Both positions are full-time contract roles based in Sydney (Surry Hills) or Melbourne.
