Southwest U.S. | Construction Industry | On-Site Leadership Role
A well-established mid-sized construction organization in the Southwest region is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive leadership team. This long-standing organization has a deep commitment to both clients and their employees.
Position Overview
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will provide strategic financial leadership to ensure the company’s fiscal health, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability. This executive will oversee all financial operations — including accounting, budgeting, cost control, forecasting, and financial planning — with a strong emphasis on job cost analysis, cost efficiency, and capital management. The CFO will serve as a key advisor to the CEO and Board of Owners, guiding data-driven decision-making that supports the company’s strategic objectives and continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with corporate goals and growth initiatives.
- Partner with the CEO and executive team to support long-term business planning and capital structure optimization.
- Provide strategic recommendations on financial performance, growth opportunities, and risk mitigation.
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Oversee financial reporting and ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and corporate policies.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, financial statement preparation, and audit coordination.
- Manage cash flow, working capital, and liquidity to support ongoing operations and future investments.
Construction Cost & Operational Finance
- Maintain and enhance cost accounting systems, including job costing and variance analysis.
- Collaborate with operations leadership to improve margins and identify profit enhancement opportunities.
- Analyze financial performance and KPIs to provide actionable recommendations that drive profitability and cash-flow improvements.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting efforts.
- Analyze budget variances, identify key drivers, and recommend corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain financial models to support strategic decisions.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Implement and manage strong internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Oversee insurance, treasury, credit, and risk management functions.
- Ensure compliance with financial, legal, and regulatory standards.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team.
- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
- Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Estimating, and Marketing.
- Build trust with senior management and external partners.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration; MBA or CPA preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including at least 3 years in a senior finance role within construction, engineering, or manufacturing.
- Demonstrated experience with cost accounting, ERP systems, and change management.
