About The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Controller/CFO who brings deep financial expertise and hands-on knowledge of the commercial construction industry - ideally in commercial pools or with a general contractor/subcontractor. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in accounting, understands construction billing practices end-to-end, and can strategically guide the company’s financial health, growth, and capital needs. This is a critical leadership role that combines technical accounting, construction finance operations, and strategic financial management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting functions, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), General Ledger, Payroll, and Month-End Close.
- Prepare, review, and publish timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, audits, and internal controls.
- Maintain a chart of accounts, job cost structures, and financial accuracy across all business units.
- Oversee construction-specific billing, including progress billings, schedule of values, retainage, and change orders.
- Manage subcontractor/vendor payments, lien releases, and compliance documents.
- Partner with project managers and general managers on job costing, budget tracking, and revenue forecasting.
- Develop financial models for pricing, profitability analysis, and business scenarios.
- Identify opportunities for margin improvement, cost control, and operational efficiencies.
- Support business planning, budgeting, and long-term financial strategy. Lead financing activities, including debt arrangements, credit lines, and capital raising.
- Ability to engage with banks, lenders, investors, and external financial stakeholders.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- 7 to 10 years of experience in commercial construction-must have worked with a pool construction firm, general contractor, or subcontractor.
- Proven experience managing full-cycle accounting and publishing financial statements under US GAAP.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required. CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred (not mandatory but highly valuable).
- Prior experience in construction billing, AP/AR, lien management, job costing, and financial coordination with project teams.
- Deep understanding of construction billing cycles, pay apps, retainage, lien processes, and subcontractor/vendor management.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $110,000.00 - $128,021.73 per year
