The Chief Financial Officer will lead all financial, accounting, and compliance functions of the organization. This role is a critical partner to the executive team, responsible for managing complex, multi-layered financing structures, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting the long-term financial sustainability of the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and executive team on financial planning, capital strategy, and organizational growth
- Develop and oversee operating and capital budgets across the portfolio
- Provide financial analysis to support acquisitions, preservation, and development initiatives
Accounting, Reporting & Compliance
- Oversee all accounting, financial reporting, and tax coordination for property, partnership, and corporate entities
- Manage annual audits, cost certifications, and regulatory financial filings
- Oversee investor and syndicator relationships, including capital calls and distributions
- Manage draw processes, requisitions, and lender compliance during construction and rehabilitation
- Support project closings and ongoing asset-level financial performance
Asset Management & Operations
- Partner with development, asset management, and property management teams to monitor property performance
- Oversee cash flow management, reserve accounts, and replacement reserves
- Analyze variances against budgets and regulatory constraints
Investor, Lender & Government Relations
- Serve as primary financial contact for investors, lenders, and public agencies
- Prepare reporting for equity investors, bondholders, and government partners
- Support board and committee reporting
Team Leadership & Systems
- Build and lead the finance and accounting team
- Implement and improve systems and controls (Yardi, MRI, or similar)
Qualifications
Required
- 15+ years of experience in real estate accounting, or development
- Experience with tax credit partnerships, cost certifications, and audits
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Based in or able to work in New York City
Preferred
- Experience with tax-exempt bonds and mixed-income developments
