OVERVIEW
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a senior executive responsible for providing strategic financial leadership, fiscal stewardship, and operational discipline to support the Company’s growth, profitability, and long-term sustainability. This role oversees the Company’s financial strategy, reporting, controls, compliance, and risk management while ensuring financial transparency and integrity across all operations.
The CFO partners closely with the President, Executive Leadership Team, and Operations leadership to align financial strategy with business objectives. This position provides oversight and support for project accounting functions while maintaining financial authority over reporting standards, systems, and internal controls.
DUTIES
Core duties include but are not limited to the following:
Financial Strategy, & Executive Leadership
- Provide strategic financial leadership aligned with the Company’s short-term and long-term objectives.
- Serve as a key advisor to the President and Executive Leadership Team on financial performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Develop and oversee annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and long-range financial models.
- Support strategic initiatives including growth planning, capital investments, and organizational scalability.
Accounting, Reporting, & Financial Integrity
- Oversee all accounting and finance functions related to financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and GAAP compliance monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Oversee work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, job cost reporting standards, and percentage-of-completion methodologies.
- Ensure consistency between project financial reporting, operational data, and company financial statements.
- Coordinate with external CPAs on audits, reviews, and tax filings.
Project Accounting Oversight, & Operational Support
- Provide financial leadership, standards, and oversight for Project Accountants who report operationally to the Vice President of Construction.
- Establish and maintain project accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls applicable across all projects.
- Partner with the Vice President of Construction to align operational execution with financial reporting requirements.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for project accounting matters impacting financial reporting, compliance, or risk exposure.
- Review and validate project financial outputs, including job cost reports and WIP schedules, prior to inclusion in company financial reporting.
Cash Flow, Banking, & Capital Management
- Manage cash flow forecasting to ensure adequate liquidity for operations and growth initiatives.
- Oversee banking relationships, credit facilities, and financing arrangements.
- Support bonding capacity and maintain relationships with sureties, lenders, and financial institutions.
- Evaluate capital expenditures and financing alternatives.
Risk Management, Compliance, & Controls
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Oversee insurance programs, financial risk management strategies, and contractual financial risk exposure.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial and regulatory requirements.
Systems, Process Improvement, & Data Governance
- Define financial system requirements, reporting standards, and data governance for accounting and project financial systems.
- Lead financial system implementations, upgrades, and integrations.
- Ensure consistent system usage, reporting accuracy, and data integrity across departments.
- Drive continuous improvement of financial processes, controls, and reporting tools.
- Any and all additional duties as reasonably assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position will lead, mentor, and develop the Finance and Accounting team responsible for internal accounting, financial reporting, and compliance. Project Accountants are operationally aligned under the Vice President of Construction, with the CFO providing financial governance, guidance, and oversight to ensure accurate and consistent financial reporting.
EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or related field or equivalent education, training, and experience is required.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is preferred.
- Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) certification is preferred.
- Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification is preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience is required.
- 10+ years of working experience within the construction industry is required.
- Demonstrated experience with job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and construction financial controls.
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP is required.
- Proficiency with construction accounting and ERP systems is required.
- Experience with Sage Intacct is preferred.
- Experience with Kahua is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) is required.

TRAVEL
Occasional local and limited domestic travel may be required as needed.
WORK CONDITIONS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position operates primarily on construction sites. The work involves prolonged periods of standing and sitting. The work will be performed at locations with degrees of temperatures and humidity.
