Position Title: General Manager, Business Operations
Entity: e-STORAGE
Position that Reports To: Corporate Vice President
Location: Kitchener, Ontario
Position Summary:
The General Manager of Business Operations is an essential part of our leadership team, reporting directly to the Corporate Vice President. This position drives operational excellence across centralized corporate service teams—including Finance, Legal, HR, Marketing, IT, and Environmental Health & Safety. The General Manager ensures seamless operational performance, scalable growth, strong governance, and world-class delivery of utility-scale energy storage projects. Their responsibilities include:
• Building and optimizing processes
• Managing cross-functional teams
• Implementing systems to support profitable execution and organizational performance
• Streamline reporting across functional teams and regional profit centers
• Guiding the long-term strategic direction of e-STORAGE
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
- Coordinate centralized teams in Finance, Procurement, HR, Marketing, IT, and EHS to ensure alignment between corporate operations and project execution.
- Develop and implement scalable operational frameworks, KPIs, and governance structures.
- Oversee the development and rollout of corporate policies, procedures, and compliance systems.
Strategic Planning & Execution
- Collaborate with the leadership and executive teams to define and execute the company’s operational strategic roadmap.
- Support long-term business planning, annual operating plans, and budget development.
- Identify operational gaps and implement systems, tools, and processes to enable growth.
Financial Oversight
- Direct the Finance team in budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and cash-flow management.
- Oversee financial reporting, risk assessment, capital planning, and audit controls.
- Liaise and coordinate with regional leadership to track leading and lagging indicators of annual and long-term financial goals.
Human Resources Leadership
- Lead HR initiatives to support organizational growth and staff development.
- Foster a culture of excellence, inclusion, and compliance with relevant policies and regulations.
- Work with HR team and leadership team to establish KPI’s that will drive successful performance against AOP.
Digital Resource & IT Oversight
- Oversee e-STORAGE’s digital resources and IT infrastructure, ensuring technological systems align with business objectives and project needs.
- Manage IT systems, cybersecurity measures, software implementation, and data management to enhance efficiency and safeguard company assets.
- Evaluate and deploy new digital tools, coordinate with IT and project teams, and drive digital transformation initiatives for improved collaboration, scalability, and innovation.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Business Development, Commercial, Engineering and Project Implementation & Services to ensure operational support for project execution.
- Facilitate communication and alignment between corporate functions and project teams.
- Drive cross-functional initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce operational bottlenecks.
Independent Business Risk Management
- Establish and oversee a comprehensive risk management framework that identifies, assesses, and mitigates operational, financial, strategic, and compliance risks across the organization.
- Ensure independent evaluation of business risks, separate from day-to-day operations, to maintain objectivity and integrity in risk oversight.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
- Monitor emerging risks and regulatory changes, ensuring proactive adaptation and compliance.
- Lead regular risk assessments, reporting findings and recommendations directly to the President and executive team.
Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, Operations Management, Accounting, or related field required.
- MBA, CPA, or advanced degree strongly preferred.
Experience
- Demonstrable leadership experience, ideally within EPC, renewable energy, or energy storage industries.
- Proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary corporate functions, including finance and accounting.
- Experience in fast-growth or technical project-delivery companies (preferred).
- Demonstrated success scaling operations and driving organizational efficiency.
- Significant experience in financial management, budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, and audit controls.
- Experience overseeing financial reporting, risk management, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership, change-management, and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent financial acumen and understanding of EPC project economics.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, and reporting standards.
