Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the executive leadership team responsible for the overall financial health, strategy, and performance of the Company. This role provides both strategic financial leadership and hands-on oversight of accounting operations in support of a growing mechanical contracting organization.
The CFO oversees all financial functions, including accounting, payroll, cash management, financial reporting, capital planning, and risk management, while partnering closely with ownership and operational leadership to drive profitability and long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities
Executive Financial Leadership
- Develop and execute long-term financial strategy aligned with company growth objectives and strategic planning initiatives
- Advise ownership and executive leadership on financial planning, capital structure, and operational performance
- Direct the development of all forecasts, projections, and budgets, ensuring feedback from stakeholders inside the business informs these figures. Effectively communicate completed forecasts, projections, and budgets to all internal and external stakeholders
- Establish and report key performance indicators that assist executive and senior leadership teams to manage business performance using both leading and lagging indicators. Direct the reporting on KPIs on a regular cadence
- Prepare and present executive-level financial reports
- Evaluate capital investments, expansion opportunities, and financial risk
- Identify and manage business risks and insurance requirements.
- Manage and maintain relationships with both P&C insurance and Surety brokers
- Manage and maintain banking relationships, including financing arrangements, debt compliance, and treasury management solutions
- Manage cash flow and cash flow forecasting, liquidity, and working capital to support the company’s strategic goals while maintaining financial stability
- Plan and manage capital expenditures (CapEx)
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and financial reporting
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to include balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
- Oversee the successful completion of financial statement audit or review and regulatory compliance audits and filing.
- Ensure compliance with all tax regulations and coordinate tax filings with external advisors
- Oversee job cost accounting and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records
- Develop and enforce internal controls and financial governance policies to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Operational Partnership
- Partner with operations and project management teams to improve job profitability and cost control
- Provide financial analysis, variance reporting, and actionable recommendations
- Support bonding, insurance, and overall risk management requirements
- Promote cross-functional collaboration and operational excellence
Talent Management
- Hire, train and develop Finance and Accounting talent which develops a high-performance culture and maintains an effective organization design.
- Provide performance management feedback for direct reports. Ensure responsibilities and goals are established for entire reporting line and both positive and constructive feedback is effectively communicated
- Ensure proper training and development opportunities for team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Systems and Process Improvement
Continuously assess and improve financial systems and processing to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a senior finance role
- Experience in mechanical contracting, construction, or project-based industries strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and construction accounting principles, including job cost and WIP reporting
- Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and cash flow management
- Experience managing banking relationships and financing structures
- Demonstrated leadership and team development capabilities
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving abilities, and strategic planning skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to operate at an advanced level within financial and accounting systems, ERP platforms, and the Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel), with the technical aptitude and intellectual agility to quickly learn, implement, and optimize new technologies and enterprise software solutions
