Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Remote | Part-Time | 15-25 Hours/Week | Contract / Fractional
Shields Group Search is partnering with an early-stage fintech startup building at the intersection of payments, blockchain, and regulated financial services to hire a Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
This company is rethinking access to digital dollars, with a mission to make stablecoins as easy to obtain as cash from an ATM. Users can leverage their existing debit cards at participating ATMs to instantly receive stablecoins such as USDC through a seamless, frictionless experience. By bridging traditional financial infrastructure with crypto rails, the company is creating fast, borderless, and reliable access to stablecoins for everyday users.
As the business scales, they are seeking a strategic, hands-on Part-Time CFO to help build the financial foundation of the company while navigating the unique treasury, compliance, and operational complexities of crypto-enabled infrastructure.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the founding team, this person will serve as the company’s fractional CFO, providing executive financial leadership on a part-time basis. This is a high-impact role ideal for a seasoned finance leader who thrives in fast-moving startup environments and brings experience across fintech, payments, and/or digital assets.
You will help build robust financial systems, manage cash runway, ensure regulatory alignment, and position the business for sustainable growth and future fundraising.

- Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors, and legal counsel on financial reporting, tax strategy, and GAAP/IFRS compliance
- Oversee banking relationships, payment processor integrations, and settlement/reconciliation processes between fiat debit rails and stablecoin on-chain flows
- Identify and mitigate financial risks, including FX and volatility exposure where relevant, fraud, chargebacks, and counterparty risks with external partners
- Support operational finance, including vendor management, expense controls, payroll, and capex planning as the company expands its ATM footprint
- Provide strategic guidance to the CEO and board on capital allocation, pricing, partnerships, and scaling decisions
Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 3-5 years in a CFO or senior finance leadership role, ideally within fintech, payments, crypto/digital assets, or regulated financial services
- Proven track record as a part-time/fractional CFO or consultant supporting startups, preferably at the early stage
- Strong understanding of fintech economics, including interchange, settlement, transaction rails, and unit economics
- Experience with crypto/stablecoins, blockchain treasury management, or digital asset custody/settlement is highly preferred
- Expertise in financial modeling, fundraising processes, and preparing startups for investment rounds
- Knowledge of U.S. financial regulations relevant to money services businesses, payments, and evolving crypto frameworks
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment with limited resources
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex financial concepts for non-finance founders and investors
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; MBA and/or CPA preferred but not required
Nice to Haves
- Experience with ATM networks, card issuing, or debit-based fintech products
- Familiarity with tools such as QuickBooks, Xero, Carta, Stripe/Treasury, or crypto analytics platforms
- Prior experience in the New York fintech or crypto ecosystem, or working with regulatory bodies such as FinCEN and state money transmitter licensing frameworks
What They Offer
- Competitive hourly or monthly retainer compensation commensurate with experience
